Why I So Totally Love Being Called a 'Climate Denier'

Why I So Totally Love Being Called a 'Climate Denier' - Breitbart:

A New Mexico physicist has launched a petition - signed by 22,000 Klimate-Kool-Aid-drinkers, and counting – demanding that from henceforward climate sceptics be referred to in the media by their proper name.

That proper name, apparently, is “climate deniers”.
Among the signatories – and really this tells you all you need to know about the credibility of the petition – is the self-styled “Science Guy” Bill Nye.
Though the petition has caused a certain degree of discombobulation in climate sceptical circles, what I say is “bring it on.”
It’s not like it doesn’t happen already: all too often at the BBC, for example, the term “deniers” is already used interchangeably with “sceptics”, for all the world as if it were a respectable, reasonable and accurate epithet.
And what I like about it – indeed why I prefer it to the more neutral “sceptic” – is that it tells us so many helpfully negative things about the person who uses it.
It tells us how low they are prepared to stoop in their petulant desperation to slur the opposition, by tacitly equating sensible and valid doubts about the robustness of current climate science groupthink with the far less intellectually tenable position of denying the existence of the Holocaust.
It also tells us how little they value the scientific method and how poorly they grasp the history of science and the philosophy of science. Had they bothered acquainting themselves, for example, with Thomas Kuhn’s The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, they would understand that scientific knowledge advances in fits and starts. One generation’s “consensus” is the next generation’s phlogiston.
We no longer believe, for example, that malaria (literally “bad air”) is transmitted by the miasma from swamps or that stomach ulcers are caused by stress. But for a period, these beliefs were as much a part of mainstream scientific thinking as “anthropogenic global warming” theory is today. Presumably, had the internet existed back then, there would have been petitions calling for the purblind fools who opposed those theories “bad air deniers” or “ulcer stress deniers”. Those petitions wouldn’t have made those hateful “deniers” any less correct in their novel hypotheses, though, would they?
Above all, though, it tells us how sorely ill-equipped intellectually these upholders of the alarmist “consensus” are to deal with their opponents’ arguments. If “man-made global warming” theory really were such a slam-dunk case there would be absolutely no need to try to silence the opposition with disparaging epithets. Their position would be demonstrably so foolish that no sensible person would be taken in for a second by their anti-scientific nonsense.
But it hasn’t quite worked out that way, has it?
For one thing, more and more evidence seems to be emerging that the ‘science’ behind global warming theory is about as trustworthy as Enron’s annual reports.
And for another, that pesky global weather appears to be proving stubbornly resistant to the warmist narrative.

"The problem, police said, is just too darn many looters.

“You’re talking hundreds, maybe thousands of people,” explained Sgt. Brian Schellman with the St. Louis County Police.

Police are seeking help from the public, but so far, they’ve only managed to identify a dozen looters — and arrest none."

Can A Liberal Commit a Hate Crime?

Can A Liberal Commit a Hate Crime? | Power Line
.....The New York Times headlines rather cautiously, “In Chapel Hill Shooting of 3 Muslims, a Question of Motive,” while the Los Angeles Times headlines, “North Carolina triple slaying arouses fear of hate crimes against Muslims.” Must be that dreaded Islamophobia that is always threatening to break out.
.....So far, the news media have been more cautious than might have been expected about labeling the murders an anti-Islamic hate crime. They have publicized the fact that Hicks is an aggressive atheist; the main theme of his Facebook page is a contempt for religion. There is little, however, that is specifically anti-Muslim. The overwhelming majority of his comments on religion, to the extent they identify a specific faith, are anti-Christian. If his victims had happened to be Christians, would the murders make national news, and would anyone be talking about hate crimes?
I suspect that the principal reason for the news media’s reticence with regard to the Hicks case is not that he is an equal opportunity atheist. Rather, I suspect they are concerned about the fact that Hicks is a liberal. This has not been widely reported, for obvious reasons. Instead, some news sources have quoted this Facebook statement: “Some call me a gun toting Liberal, others call me an open-minded Conservative.” In fact, however, apart from the fact that he likes guns, there is nothing conservative about Hicks. Here are some of his Facebook posts and “likes”:
Screen Shot 2015-02-12 at 12.36.35 PM
.....You can see the liberal media’s problem. Craig Hicks is, politically, a member of their team–a garden variety, cookie cutter, Obama-voting, conservative-hating liberal. His Facebook page looks like most reporters’ would, if they didn’t have to worry about appearances. So, much as they might want to publicize a hate crime against Muslims–Islamophobia at last!–can they possibly admit that a dyed in the wool liberal like Hicks can be guilty of an anti-Muslim hate crime?

Report: Just 17% black teens live with parents, 54% for whites, both low marks

Report: Just 17% black teens live with parents, 54% for whites, both low marks | WashingtonExaminer.com:
A comprehensive survey of U.S. Census data finds that the nuclear American family, where both biological parents are at home, is in meltdown, with blacks teens being hit especially hard with less than 2-in-10 15-17-year-olds living with mom and dad.
The survey from the Family Research Council’s Marriage and Religion Research Institutereleased Thursday also shows a depressing historical roadmap of the breakup of traditional families, a trend the group fears will continue unless marriage “until death do us part” is revived.
Key highlights from the “Fifth Annual Index of Family Belonging and Rejection” provided in advance to Secrets:
46 percent of teens 15-17 have grown up with the biological parents, an all-time low from a high of 63 percent in 1950.
Just 17 percent of black teens live with their nuclear family, another all-time low and down from 38 percent in 1950.
— 54 percent of white kids aged 15-17 grew up with their biological family intact, a low point and down from 67 percent in 1950.
“The American family is in a crisis,” said the survey. It was accompanied by a more detailed report on the crisis in Africa American families.

BREAKING: Scandal-Plagued Democrat Governor RESIGNS

BREAKING: Scandal-Plagued Democrat Governor RESIGNS:

"Kitzhaber is in his fourth term as governor and has, until recently, served as a popular governor in the Democrat-controlled state. However, he has come under fire for apparent cronyism as his fiancée, Cylvia Hayes, has earned substantial income from companies that have benefited greatly from her influence with the governor.

Ms. Hayes serves as the official First Lady of Oregon and also serves as an unpaid adviser in her fiancé’s administration.

Last year, Hayes came under fire after she was forced to admit that she earned $5,000 from agreeing to a “greencard marriage” after she married an Ethiopian man in 1997 so that he could stay in the country and she could earn money."

Surprise: Government has been wrong about cholesterol for 40 years

Surprise: Government has been wrong about cholesterol for 40 years « Hot Air:
The nation’s top nutrition advisory panel has decided to drop its caution about eating cholesterol-laden food, a move that could undo almost 40 years of government warnings about its consumption.
The group’s finding that cholesterol in the diet need no longer be considered a “nutrient of concern” stands in contrast to the committee’s findings five years ago, the last time it convened. During those proceedings, as in previous years, the panel deemed the issue of excess cholesterol in the American diet a public health concern.
The finding follows an evolution of thinking among many nutritionists who now believe that, for healthy adults, eating foods high in cholesterol may not significantly affect the level of cholesterol in the blood or increase the risk of heart disease.
The people who gave you the scourge that is the egg-white omelette, plain whole-grain toast for breakfast, and carb-laden, tasteless, low-fat foods that make you fat, have changed their minds about all that. One wonders when these new recommendations might be reflected in the slop First Lady Michelle Obama insists be served to growing kids.

The cholesterol bogeyman matches a pattern I’ve noted before,
last time writing about fat, which they’re also changing their minds about:
The thing is, though, it’s not just the science of the last 40 years that was to blame for steering people wrong. It’s a coalition of nanny-staters in the government, media, and compliant and opportunistic food manufacturers who hype every trend in nutrition research. Scientists offer findings, media extrapolates those findings wildly, government rushes to threaten or place restrictions on whatever has just recently been called “bad,” and food manufacturers perform a combination of folding to government threats and capitalizing on a health trend. And, that my friends, is why I can’t find full-fat Greek yogurt to save my ever-loving life. It’s yogurt. It’s a dairy product. It should have all the fat in it. That’s what it’s for."

Cornell, meet Obamacare’s cousin: Students revolt over new $350 health fee

Cornell, meet Obamacare’s cousin: Students revolt over new $350 health fee:
Unless they have the university health plan, students are on the hook for a ‘sustainable model’
Students at Cornell University are feeling the after-effects of Obamacare: a new $350 student health fee if they opt out of the university health plan, even if they have separate insurance plans.
Announced last week by President David Skorton, the news spurred a series of rallies on campus, the Twitter hashtag #FightTheFee and an accompanying Twitter handle, which encouraged students to “pack” Thursday’s Student Assembly meeting.
The new health fee would “impact approximately 70 percent of undergraduates, 30 percent of professional and 10 percent of graduate students,” Skorton said in a Feb. 5 statement.
.....Students who do not opt in to the $2,352 plan will get hit with the $350 fee, which “most likely” won’t be covered by financial aid, according to The Cornell Review.....

Is Obama Trying to Get Around a Big Common Core Complaint? | TheBlaze.com:

"Common Core was established by the National Governors Association and Council of Chief State School Officers. The Obama administration favors Common Core, with the U.S. Department of Education tying federal grants to states that adopt the standards.

Parents and teachers have heavily criticized the emphasis on testing from Common Core, and the time schools spend preparing students for the standardized tests."

Obama amnesty creates loophole for illegal immigrants to register, vote in elections

Obama amnesty creates loophole for illegal immigrants to register, vote in elections - Washington Times:
"President Obama’s temporary deportation amnesty will make it easier for illegal immigrants to improperly register and vote in elections, state elections officials testified to Congress on Thursday, saying that the driver’s licenses and Social Security numbers they will be granted create a major voting loophole.
While stressing that it remains illegal for noncitizens to vote, secretaries of state from Ohio and Kansas said they won’t have the tools to sniff out illegal immigrants who register anyway, ignoring stiff penalties to fill out the registration forms that are easily available at shopping malls, motor vehicle bureaus and in curbside registration drives.
Anyone registering to vote attests that he or she is a citizen, but Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted said mass registration drives often aren’t able to give due attention to that part, and so illegal immigrants will still get through.
Kansas Secretary of State Kris W. Kobach said even some motor vehicle bureau workers automatically ask customers if they want to register to vote, which some noncitizens in the past have cited as their reason for breaking the law to register.
“It’s a guarantee it will happen,” Mr. Kobach said.
Democrats disputed that it was an issue at all, saying Mr. Obama’s new policy, which could apply to more than 4 million illegal immigrants, doesn’t change anything in state or federal law."

U.N. Official Reveals Real Reason Behind Global Warming Scare

U.N. Official Reveals Real Reason Behind Global Warming Scare - Investors.com:
The alarmists keep telling us their concern about global warming is all about man's stewardship of the environment.
But we know that's not true.
A United Nations official has now confirmed this.
At a news conference last week in Brussels, Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of U.N.'s Framework Convention on Climate Change, admitted that the goal of environmental activists is not to save the world from ecological calamity but to destroy capitalism.
"This is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution," she said.
Referring to a new international treaty environmentalists hope will be adopted at the Paris climate change conference later this year, she added:
"This is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history."

OUTRAGE ALERT! IRS Seized $940,000 Without Due Process From Navy Veteran’s Business Bank Account

VIDEO: OUTRAGE ALERT! IRS Seized $940,000 Without Due Process From Navy Veteran’s Business Bank Account | The Gateway Pundit:
The IRS admits Navy Veteran Andrew Clyde did nothing wrong, but this is what tyranny looks like in Obama’s redistribution of wealth.
When Obama wants your money, he takes it via the arm of the IRS.
It should be noted that if a business makes deposits of $10,000 or more, the IRS can seize money on the assumption that an individual is attempting to launder money, thus using the “suspicion of criminal activity” excuse—even if no criminal activity exists.
These deposits mandate that the bank collect a massive amount of personal information before processing a deposit of 10k or more.
Many people keep deposits under $10,000 to avoid filling out the intrusive government forms.
Thus, the IRS goes after this activity as well—when the money deposits are consistently below $10,000—the IRS claims “structuring” to avoid the $10k or over rule.
Basically depositors are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.
The IRS will seize money on either side of the amount limit and use whichever rule on the book applies to their agenda.
