"A vast network of identity theft may have affected as many as 5 million people in order to get fraudulent student loans, reports Watchdog.
In total, these thefts gave the fraudsters $187 million (over 36 percent of all loans) according to a 2013 report by the inspector general for the Department of Education.
Well-organized “fraud rings” received all this money, and their numbers swelled from 18,000 people in 2009 to 34,000 in 2012. To date, the IG got back a mere $10.8 million — less than 6 percent of the total amount.
This massive fraud happened, among others, with online education, according to a previous report from the IG in 2011. The report stated that online education, while improving access, helps with anonymity and increases fraud. At the time, some 10,000 people allegedly participated in fraud rings registering “straw students.”

"LANSING, MI -- Michigan Democrats in the House and Senate on Tuesday released their energy principles, which include increasing the state's renewable energy to 20 percent by 2022.
The concept is to have renewable energy serve as an economic boost while also keeping utility costs affordable.
...The Democratic plan to increase renewable energy to 20 percent would allow "off-ramps" for new technologies and more affordable alternatives.
It would also ban utility companies from charging customers surcharges to meet the new targets.

Mashallah al-Zewi, the oil minister in the Tripoli-based government said ISIS attacked the Dhahra oilfield, before retreating.
He told AP on Wednesday that the militants swept down from the central city of Sirte and attacked Dhahra oil field to the south, trading fire with guards and blowing up residential and administrative buildings before eventually retreating.
Colonel Ali al-Hassi, a spokesman for Libyan oil industry security told the BBC said the same fighters first took the oilfields at Bahi and Mabruk.
“Extremists took control of the Bahi and Mabruk fields and are now heading to seize the Dhahra field following the retreat of the forces guarding these sites,” he said."
