Another Dishonest Smear By the Washington Post [with comment by Paul] | Power Line

Another Dishonest Smear By the Washington Post [with comment by Paul] | Power Line
"Yesterday’s Washington Post carried an attack on South Dakota and its governor, Kristi Noem, under the headline South Dakota’s Governor resisted ordering people to stay home. Now it has one of the nation’s largest coronavirus hot spots.
The Post’s article is popular on Twitter, as liberal “blue checks” use it to express their hope that lots of South Dakotans die as punishment for their temerity in electing a Republican governor.
As governors across the country fell into line in recent weeks, South Dakota’s top elected leader stood firm: There would be no statewide order to stay home...
The entire point of the article is that the Smithfield experience proves Governor Noem was wrong not to order a mass closure of businesses.
But wait!
It is obvious even to a casual reader that the Post’s attack makes no sense.
The article acknowledges that the Smithfield plant had already “been deemed essential by the federal government,” so no order Noem might have issued would have applied to it in any case.
The Smithfield experience had nothing to do with Noem’s policy.
One is tempted to stop there.
The Post’s attempted smear obviously missed its mark.
But let’s continue.
The point of the Post story is to convey the impression that Governor Noem’s reliance on voluntary measures, education, persuasion, and close cooperation with federal agencies, other governors, and the private sector is a failure.
Strikingly absent from the Post’s hit job, however, is the bottom line: how many South Dakotans have actually succumbed to COVID-19?
The answer: 6, and none have been reported within the last week.
Here is Governor Noem on Fox News, talking about South Dakota’s Hydroxychloroquine trial:

Left-wing outlets like the Washington Post have no interest in accuracy, let alone fairness.
Today South Dakota is the target, but really, they hate all of us who don’t toe the party line.
PAUL ADDS: John has written another superb post.
I comment only to call out the Washington Post reporter who produced this ridiculous hit piece.
He is Griff Witte."

Scientists Skeptical of Anthropogenic Global Warming--John Whitefisk
"One thing you would never know from the blaring static that surrounds this epidemic is the thought-provoking observation that more people over 100 have died of the coronavirus than people under 30, more over 90 than under 50.
Herd immunity” is an accepted concept in epidemiology.
It occurs when “a large percentage of a population has become immune to an infection, whether through previous infections or vaccination, thereby providing a measure of protection for individuals who are not immune.”
“Herd mentality,” on the contrary, provides immunity from independent thought.
It protects a population from thinking clearly by spreading a spirit of conformity.
It increases a people’s docility, thus rendering them more susceptible to the blandishments of usurping authority.
Herd immunity I regard as a good thing.
Herd mentality, not so much."

BLINDSIDED: Trump trolls the press, preemptively destroying the credibility of the media - TheBlaze

On Monday, President Donald Trump gave one of his daily coronavirus task force press briefings, which will likely go down in the history books as one of his greatest presidential moments of all time. Here's what happened: With the eyes of the nation upon him, Trump executed that most tactically solid troll he has ever launched on the mainstream media.

If Dr. Kerkhove truly was confident that COVID-19 would spread through human-to-human transmission "right from the start" as she now claims, then the WHO had a funny way of disseminating that information.
On Jan. 12 — nearly two weeks after being notified about the outbreak — a WHO news release assured that "based on the preliminary information from the Chinese investigation team, no evidence of significant human-to-human transmission and no health care worker infections have been reported."
"At this stage, there is no infection among healthcare workers, and no clear evidence of human to human transmission," the news release added.

Well I’m mad too.--Fans of Best of the Web Today

"The following by a FB contact:
“I’m mad that our government didn’t act sooner.”
I’ve seen that on quite a few of my friend’s posts, a thinly veiled accusation that Trump didn’t act quickly enough.
Well I’m mad too.

  • I’m mad that Pelosi and the U.S. House wasted close to 3 years pursuing an obviously futile impeachment of the President.
  • I’m mad that Pelosi sat on those very impeachment papers for 28 days before sending them on to the Senate.
  • I’m mad that the Senate was shut down for 21 days in January and early February dealing with Pelosi’s impeachment, thereby leaving Trump to deal with Covid alone, with no support from either the House or Senate.
  • I’m mad that the day the President closed travel to and from China, Chuck Schumer declared the action “racist”.
  • I’m mad that 28 days after the travel restriction, Nancy Pelosi, downplaying the severity of the virus, begged people to visit Chinatown in San Francisco, again playing the race card.
  • I’m mad that Pelosi swooped in at the last hour of the stimulus package, adding things that were pure politics and had nothing to do with the dire circumstances at hand.
  • I’m mad that the Obama administration didn’t replenish the National Medical stockpile of masks after the SARS and H1N1 virus outbreak.
  • I’m mad that there are top doctors and experts in many fields having to waste their time at daily press briefings just so the “media” can pester them with gotcha questions that they think might be their ticket to a Pulitzer.
  • I’m mad that Pelosi is now talking about an investigation into Trump’s handling of the Covid crisis.
Every day, every turn, every word, every breath since before he was elected, President Trump has been attacked, mocked, accused and belittled by Pelosi and her gang. (And don’t even get me started on the media.)
So there it is.
I’m mad as hell that our country is going through this and the petty bickering from the left won’t even stop for people dying and our economy imploding.
Hey Nancy, why don’t you man up and stand side by side with the President to work through this mess? American citizens need to see Washington working together and you’re infuriatingly absent.
I’m mad too..."

MADISON - Three tubs of ballots for Oshkosh and Appleton have been discovered at a mail processing center in Milwaukee, according to the Wisconsin Elections Commission and a state senator.
The discovery emerges as would-be voters across the state express a host of frustrations about absentee ballots they tried to avoid going to the polls amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Many have said ballots they requested long ago did not arrive by Tuesday, the deadline for getting their ballots postmarked.
Meagan Wolfe(D), the administrator of the Elections Commission, said..."We don’t have answers on that at this point," Wolfe said during an online media briefing..."

Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday over her stay at home order, which has kept Michiganders at home except for completing tasks necessary to sustain life. The orders have been put into place to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in Detroit by David C. Helm of Helm Law; it names five plaintiffs who are seeking damages, but primarily want to get the order lifted or revised. The main argument is that the fundamental rights of each of those involved were violated by the executive order.

China Impressed By Michigan Governor's Totalitarian Policies | The Babylon Bee
"BEIJING—In a candid speech Tuesday, President Xi Jinping stated he was "pretty impressed" by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's handling of the coronavirus outbreak, specifically praising her totalitarian policies.
China's dictator said he was actually a little jealous he hadn't thought of some of her ideas himself.
"She has some pretty great ideas -- stopping people from gathering together even with their families, ordering people not to buy seeds -- they can't even plant their own food now!
We hadn't even thought of some of these innovative approaches," the Communist president said. "We're always looking for more ways to oppress people, and we were really inspired by Whitmer's approach."
"Not bad, Gretchen."
Other dictators across the world also chimed in with words of support and affirmation for Whitmer's policies, from North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un to Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei..."

The anti-Trump fervor is so intense that it has divided the nation into two alien camps until there is hardly any longer a national conversation or a united front in the face of the deadly contagion.
For anyone not in thrall to anti-Trump obsessions, the spectacle of Trump hatred is unfathomable. It’s not that the criticisms of President Trump are harsh, but that they veer on the lunatic, making communication with those who voice them impossible. It is why the national conversation and a semblance of national unity in the face of threats seem almost hopeless.
