The Problem with New York City's COVID-19 Death-Rate Estimates | National Review
"...The number of coronavirus cases seems to be dropping, but deaths are suddenly spiking.
Why?
...Initially, deaths also seemed to be dropping markedly...
Then, suddenly, deaths shot up on Tuesday, to 2,407, by far the highest one-day total yet...
What gives?
Well, the main problem right now is New York.
...As the New York Times reported yesterday, Gotham’s Health Department abruptly added 3,700 victims to the COVID-19 death toll even though these decedents were not tested.
...health officials have been tracking deaths they’ve hypothesized could have been related to the virus, based on symptoms and medical history.
But what does that mean?...

Google Will Continue to Harvest Your Data Through Chinese Virus Screening
Verily, the life sciences wing of Google parent company Alphabet Inc., will not comply with a request from lawmakers to drop its mandatory Google account sign-in for its Chinese virus screening website. The Masters of the Universe also believe they can ignore HIPAA laws because they are “not acting as a covered entity or business associate.”
The website allows people to answer a series of questions to check if they should get tested for the Chinese coronavirus, but it requires that you sign in to a Google account in order to access it, meaning the company will have your data.
Watch: Michigan Protester -- 'I Just Applied for Unemployment for the First Time in My Life'
A Michigan man attending the vehicle protest in Lansing told Breitbart News that he was laid off as a result of the economic shutdown spurred by the coronavirus pandemic and stated that he had to file for unemployment for the first time in his life as a result.
Frustrated residents flocked to Michigan’s capital on Wednesday to voice their opposition to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) stringent stay-at-home orders, which many say directly violates their liberty.

We’re Suing For A Ton Of Records From The DOJ’s FISA Abuse Report | The Daily Caller
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington, D.C., seeks all transcripts, summaries and notes from 27 individuals interviewed as part of the inspector general’s probe, including Christopher Steele, the author of the Trump dossier, and former FBI executives like James Comey and Andrew McCabe.
Citizens United filed the lawsuit after the DOJ and IG’s office failed to provide documents within the 20-day window required under the Freedom of Information Act.

"We told you last week about the massive amount of blowback Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has gotten for a ridiculous level of overreach with her response to the coronavirus outbreak. The ban-happy governor has gone as far as to prohibit the sale of infant car seats, garden seeds, flooring, paint and golf. Also forbidden is contracted landscaping as well as driving between two residences even if you own both properties (but we’re guessing the governor will still require property taxes to be paid on both).
The criticism of Whitmer has spilled over, and a protest took place at the State Capitol in Lansing today, with most people remaining in their cars while some people walked to the Capitol steps:
Thousands of people from all over Michigan are converging on our state Capitol today to protest the governor’s restrictive “Stay Home” order and get their voices, and car horns, heard. #OperationGridlock
The scene in Lansing right now as protests over @GovWhitmer's stay home order continue.

Masterpiece Cakeshop Sued Again— This Time Over A Transgender Cake | The Daily Caller
Masterpiece Cakeshop Sued Again— This Time Over A Transgender Cake | The Daily Caller:
Jack Phillips, the Colorado baker who was vindicated before the Supreme Court in 2018 after he refused to bake a gay wedding cake has been sued again, this time over a transgender themed cake.
Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado, is back in court, this time over his refusal to bake a trans-themed cake in 2017. Autumn Scardina, the transgender lawyer who ordered the cake first took action against Phillips by reporting him to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. After the commission rules in the baker’s favor, Scardina took her case to a district court.

The Pandemic Brings Out Americans' Inner Snitches
- Setting the cops on social-distancing scofflaws is dangerous to public health and a free society.
"In the time of the pandemic the world's snitches are in their glory, pointing fingers at "non-essential" businesses struggling to keep the lights on and at neighbors brazenly standing too closely together. Rarely have entitled scolds been so empowered to tattle on people doing stuff of which they disapprove.
Lockdown commandments hand them the opportunity not just to publicly shame violators—an annoying hobby, yet one to which they have every right—but to inform to the authorities, with all that entails.
As an epidemic, snitching seems to be competing with the virus itself in its spread..."

Does Liberalism Cause Mental Illness?
Instapundit Blog Archive I WOULD SAY IT’S MORE OF A RESULT, BUT I THINK IT’S SELF-EXACERBATING:
"Does Liberalism Cause Mental Illness? ”
Top line: liberals are more than twice as likely as conservatives to be found to have a mental health condition. . . .
Especially notable is the lower chart, which shows that ‘very liberal’ whites are much more likely to have mental health problems than ‘very liberal’ non-whites.
I’d love to see this broken out further by income, as I suspect that problem is especially strong with rich white liberals.
Turns out this isn’t an isolated finding.”

Another Dishonest Smear By the Washington Post [with comment by Paul] | Power Line
"Yesterday’s Washington Post carried an attack on South Dakota and its governor, Kristi Noem, under the headline South Dakota’s Governor resisted ordering people to stay home. Now it has one of the nation’s largest coronavirus hot spots.
The Post’s article is popular on Twitter, as liberal “blue checks” use it to express their hope that lots of South Dakotans die as punishment for their temerity in electing a Republican governor.
Left-wing outlets like the Washington Post have no interest in accuracy, let alone fairness.

The Post’s article is popular on Twitter, as liberal “blue checks” use it to express their hope that lots of South Dakotans die as punishment for their temerity in electing a Republican governor.
As governors across the country fell into line in recent weeks, South Dakota’s top elected leader stood firm: There would be no statewide order to stay home...
The entire point of the article is that the Smithfield experience proves Governor Noem was wrong not to order a mass closure of businesses.
But wait!
It is obvious even to a casual reader that the Post’s attack makes no sense.
The article acknowledges that the Smithfield plant had already “been deemed essential by the federal government,” so no order Noem might have issued would have applied to it in any case.
The Smithfield experience had nothing to do with Noem’s policy.

One is tempted to stop there.
The Post’s attempted smear obviously missed its mark.
But let’s continue.
The Post’s attempted smear obviously missed its mark.
But let’s continue.
The point of the Post story is to convey the impression that Governor Noem’s reliance on voluntary measures, education, persuasion, and close cooperation with federal agencies, other governors, and the private sector is a failure.
Strikingly absent from the Post’s hit job, however, is the bottom line: how many South Dakotans have actually succumbed to COVID-19?
The answer: 6, and none have been reported within the last week.
Here is Governor Noem on Fox News, talking about South Dakota’s Hydroxychloroquine trial:
Today South Dakota is the target, but really, they hate all of us who don’t toe the party line.
