Whitmer supports 'spirit' of efforts to 'defund the police'
"Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Tuesday she supported the “spirit” of efforts to defund the police in the wake of George Floyd’s death last month at the hands of Minneapolis police, a statement that her office later clarified did not indicate support for eliminating funding for law enforcement.
...“The spirit as you just articulated is really just about reprioritizing and rebuilding communities, not just policing,” Whitmer said.
State budgets are overwhelmingly focused on law enforcement and criminal justice, the governor told the African-American-oriented online publication, but they should be focused on education, health care, skills training, public transit and “leveling the playing field,” she said.
...Whitmer added at the end of the 33-minute interview that “we’re not going to defund all the police but we’re going to make the investments in people. And that’s what this is all about.”

- The tea destroyed in the Boston Tea Party was the property of the Crown-owned East India Company, so what the Sons of Liberty destroyed was the property of the British government, not private property.
- No one was killed or injured in any way during the raid.
- The ships were not burned or damaged, there was a broken lock, which the Sons of Liberty replaced the next day.
- The ships were actually cleaned up and anything that was disturbed was put back in place.

The figurine in Richmond dedicated the 15th-century explorer was ripped down and dragged into the lake. As Breitbart News has reported, left-wing activists are trying to have a statue of Abraham Lincoln removed from Park Square after nearly 150 years because they find the depiction of an emancipated slave in the sculpture to be offensive.
The statue has stood there since 1879 and is a replica of an original statue built with funds contributed by freed slaves.
Mayor Walsh’s office told the Boston Globe last week that he favors removing the Lincoln statue and replacing it with “one that recognizes equality.”
However, Mayor Walsh has opposed renaming Faneuil Hall, a major tourist attraction in downtown Boston, declaring last week: “The Mayor is always open to having a conversation, but he remains opposed to changing the name of Faneuil Hall.”

“There have been a couple guys trying to silence us, but the Trump supporters down there are helping keep it under control,” one demonstrator said, referring to the militia members as “unofficial guardians” of the protests.

"Mike Gundy went fishing on Lake Texoma donning an OAN t-shirt," the sports reporter captioned the tweet.
About three hours later, OSU football player Chuba Hubbard referenced Boone's tweet, writing, "I will not stand for this. This is completely insensitive to everything going on in society, and it’s unacceptable. I will not be doing anything with Oklahoma State until things CHANGE."
...OSU President Burns Hargis also weighed in, tweeting, "I hear and respect the concerns expressed by our Black student-athletes. This is a time for unity of purpose to confront racial inequities and injustice. We will not tolerate insensitive behavior by anyone at Oklahoma State."...

A street preacher entered the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone in Seattle, where his free speech was stifled, physically assaulted, and choked. Elijah Schaffer of BlazeTV, who is the host of the "Slightly Offens*ve" podcast, was reporting from the CHAZ on Saturday and captured some unnerving video.
The New York Times wrote an article about the CHAZ titled "Free Food, Free Speech and Free of Police: Inside Seattle's 'Autonomous Zone.'" However, speech may not be as free as advertised. Several people in the CHAZ demanded that the preacher be removed from the autonomous zone for speech about Christianity that offended them.

"[Lee Fang of The Intercept], of course, had a choice. He didn’t have to apologize. If he didn’t apologize, he wasn’t going to be executed or even sent to an actual Gulag – just a social one. He would have become persona non grata at every liberal media outlet in the US, and apparently he was not willing to do that. But maybe, if he’s a true person of the left, his apology wasn’t just pragmatic. It may have been sincere. Like Winston Smith at the end of Nineteen Eighty-Four, and in Fang’s case without even the need for torture and major re-education, perhaps he was ready to sincerely admit the error of his ways. If that was the case, to me it’s even more frightening than if Fang had just sucked it up in order to keep his job. But if he was sincere, it’s a demonstration of how leftists manage to absorb new information and to integrate it into their pre-existing mental map of what’s acceptable and unacceptable. Depending on how far left Fang is, he might just decide that if all the other leftists say he’s guilty of thoughtcrime here, it must therefore be so.
