Why Can Children No Longer Hold Their Pencils Correctly? - Intellectual Takeout

In recent years, a number of parents and grandparents have discovered an alarming trend: children no longer know how to write in cursive. - Annie Holmquist
  • But what happens when children begin to learn cursive and can’t hold their pencil properly?
Amazingly, this is the growing reality in a number of countries.
The Guardian explains:
“‘Children are not coming into school with the hand strength and dexterity they had 10 years ago,’ said Sally Payne, the head paediatric occupational therapist at the Heart of England foundation NHS Trust. ‘Children coming into school are being given a pencil but are increasingly not be[ing] able to hold it because they don’t have the fundamental movement skills.
‘To be able to grip a pencil and move it, you need strong control of the fine muscles in your fingers. Children need lots of opportunity to develop those skills.’”...

Your tax dollars at "work"!-----Duke professor uses whiteness-based ‘necropolitics’ to lobby for gun control

White people have supported gun rights out of fear of the ‘threat of racialized and potentially queering others’ … ? -  Dave Huber - Associate Editor
Wellesley College recently hosted a Duke University professor of gender, sexuality & feminist studies to discuss the “biopolitical paradox” of whiteness and gun violence.
  • Given the department in which she works and (according to her faculty page) her specializations in feminist science and technology studies, Catherine Clune-Taylor’s advocacy for the topic includes a lot of polysyllablic and critical theory-created terms which may cause an unneeded consternation in comprehension.
  • This isn’t a surprise considering that as a postdoctoral researcher at Princeton, Clune-Taylor taught the course “Science After Feminism” which “investigated how feminism” challenges the notion that science “is commonly held to be the objective, empirical pursuit of natural facts.”...

Police Bodycam Caught Chilling Statement from NYC Terror Suspect After He Was Taken Into Custody

“All praise is due to Allah lord of all worlds,” he wrote, according to the complaint. “I pledge my allegience [sic] to the Islamic State. Die in your rage yu [sic] kuffar!”

The complaint noted that “kuffar” is a term for non-Muslim, and “die in your rage” is an Islamic State slogan based on a verse in the Quran, the Muslim scripture.

Besides his Islamist terrorist motivation, Balat made it clear that his goal was mass murder.

When interrogators asked Balat if he was attempting to do something like the Boston Marathon bombing of 2013, in which two Muslim brothers detonated explosives near the finish line of the event, Balat confirmed that he was.

"But don't nobody cooperate with the police!"-----Dozens gather at Muskegon Heights community forum after increase in gun violence - mlive.com

That’s at least a shooting every other day in 2026 so far, police said on Thursday. - Kayla Tucker| ktucker@mlive.com
  • During a panel on criminal justice, Sgt. Shaun Kozal stressed the need for help from the community. He said there have been no tips on the suspect who fatally shot 15-year-old Tayvon Watson on Feb. 24. “A 15-year-old was killed in this community and not one person has called Silent Observer or called the police department or put a tip in on our app about anything – that, to me, is unacceptable,” Kozal said. That’s our biggest hurdle, is trying to get community involvement.”
  • A moment of tension arose as Council member Kitchen interjected, explaining that residents should communicate more with police, but there are reasons why they don’t. He challenged the police to interact more with the community and listen to their specific concerns about the police. “Muskegon Heights residents have endured a lot and have experienced certain things throughout their journey and their lives that have soured certain relationships with our police,”...
