This Time Is Not Different: Why The Market Is Heading For A Fall

This Time Is Not Different: Why The Market Is Heading For A Fall | David Stockman's Contra Corner:

The 2008 Wall Street meltdown is long forgotten, having been washed away by a tsunami of central bank liquidity.

Indeed, the S&P is up nearly 200% from its March 2009 low.

Yet four cardinal measures of Main Street economic health convey nothing like a 2X pick-up from the post-crisis bottom.

To wit, in June the count of  breadwinner jobs was 68.5 million or 5% below were it stood as the crisis got underway. Likewise, business investment in real plant and equipment is still 5% below its late 2007 peak. So too with the real median family income at about $53k—its still down by 6%. And unlike past cycles where safety net programs like food stamps shed recipients as the recovery gained momentum, there are still nearly 47 million Americans in the program compared to 30 million in March 2009.

On Aug. 5 Michigan voters will be asked to approve or reject Proposal 1, which would modify the state’s personal property tax.
The legislation that would go into effect if Proposal 1 were approved by voters creates three new exemptions for certain businesses that are currently subject to the personal property tax; it does not eliminate the personal property tax.
Commercial and industrial businesses with less than $80,000 of personal property will be exempt, and, eventually, all manufacturing personal property will be exempt.
These exemptions amount to an estimated $600 million tax cut when fully implemented.

China’s terrifying debt ratios poised to breeze past US levels – Telegraph Blogs

China’s terrifying debt ratios poised to breeze past US levels – Telegraph Blogs:
"The China-US sorpasso is looming. I do not mean the much-exaggerated moment when China’s GDP will overtake America's GDP – which may not happen in the lifetime of anybody reading this blog post – as China slows to more pedestrian growth rates (an objective of premier Li Keqiang.)
The sorpasso may instead be the ominous moment when China’s debt ratios overtake the arch-debtor itself.
I had presumed that this inflection point was still a very long way off, but a new report from Stephen Green at Standard Chartered argues that China’s aggregate debt level has reached 251 per cent of GDP, as of June."

Democrats Defend Obama's Fundraising Swing:
WASHINGTON — President Obama has continued on an aggressive fundraising schedule in recent weeks, despite an ongoing crisis at the border, the downed plane in the Ukraine, and the conflict in Israel and Gaza.
House Democrats, including the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, defended the Obama’s decision to keep his fundraising commitments. In the current astronomical fundraising environment, they argued that the president is just doing what he has to do.
“We live in a world right now where every day can interfere with many things and President Bush was out there fundraising on tough days and President Obama has tough days where he’s also fighting for the middle class,” DCCC chairman Steve Israel told BuzzFeed. “And the best way he can fight for the middle class is to have a Democratic House of Representatives.”

LIBERTY REVIEW

LIBERTY REVIEW:
http://www.libertyreview76.blogspot.com/2014/07/manufactured-crisis-by-tammy-derouin.html

Mexico’s illegal immigration laws are much tougher than the U.S. They too have issues with illegal immigration from the south.  The Mexican president met with the Guatemalan president and together they came up with a rather ingenious way to resolve this issue. Their solution was revealed during a recent press conference to“officially announce an agreement to make it easier for those making the illegal journey to the United States from Central America, to cross into Mexico.”  Isn’t this wonderful!  Mexico will be issuing “Regional Visitor Cards” to help those who would otherwise be crossing through Mexico illegally, now legal.  But only for 72 hours, just long enough to cross into the United States illegally.

Like the TSA doesn't make air travel nasty enough?-------Family Asked To Leave Southwest Flight After Tweet

Family Asked To Leave Southwest Flight After Tweet « CBS Minnesota:
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Twin Cities man is upset about the way his family was treated on a Southwest Airlines flight because of a tweet.
Duff Watson says he was asked to de-board a flight from Denver to Minneapolis with his two kids on Sunday after an agent didn’t like a tweet he wrote about her service.
....Soon after getting to their seats, the family of three was asked to leave the plane.
“[She said] her safety feels threatened at this point because of what I tweeted,” Watson said.
Watson’s daughter, Lucy, said she feared for her father.
“She said ‘I’m going to call the cops,’” Lucy said. “I like thought something bad was going to happen, like my dad being in jail.”
Watson says at that point, his children started to cry.
He doesn’t understand why his family was targeted.
“There was no use of profanity, there were no threats made.
There was nothing other than, you know, a terse exchange between a customer service agent and a customer,” he said.
Watson says he was forced to delete the tweet.
“She said, ‘You can’t board the plane unless you delete that tweet,’” Watson said.
Southwest Airlines sent a statement which confirmed that a customer was removed for a short time and continued on to Minneapolis.
They also said the incident is under review.

The Michigan Strategic Fund, an arm of the development corporation, revised a tax credit for GM today and incentives for two Chinese manufacturers that are investing in the state — H.A. Automotive Systems and YanFeng Automotive.

Ya gettin' the feelin' the libs just LOVE Detroit......and how it got where it is---------New York Times: 'The People of Detroit Have Suffered Enough'

Let us be clear.
The Detroit unions knew full well the city could NOT fulfill the promises the union and their cronies scammed into the union contracts.
No different from Muskegon county "leaders" and union leaders.
New York Times: 'The People of Detroit Have Suffered Enough' –  Deadline Detroit:
The "grand bargain" pending before Bankruptcy Judge Steven Rhodes is "a good compromise," The New York Times says Wednesday in an editorial. It cites the fact that "everyone is left unhappy" as one proof point.
Under the headline "Painful Progress in Detroit," the paper notes that "municipal pensioners who voted yes on the blueprint are a more vulnerable constituency than the financial institutions that voted no."
The pensioners . . . have negotiated in good faith on a plan that is now Detroit’s best hope for making a fresh start. By comparison, most of the other creditors are professional investors who knew or should have known the risks of lending money to Detroit yet now find themselves calling for deeper pension cuts or auctioning off masterpieces in order to minimize their losses. Their no votes on the blueprint — and their probable appeal if Judge Rhodes confirms the blueprint — will only further delay Detroit’s restructuring and deepen its misery.
For now, the painful bankruptcy process is moving forward as it should. The outcome is uncertain, but one thing is sure: The people of Detroit have suffered enough.

Pot holes, broken bridges EVERYWHERE and this is high priority? $3.3 MILLION for THIS?!!!!-------Good Lord, what a waste!------Muskegon to benefit from $6.5 million in funding for road projects downtown, in 34th District

Muskegon to benefit from $6.5 million in funding for road projects downtown, in 34th District | MLive.com
"Muskegon County residents and visitors will benefit from a $3.3 million allocation that will allow officials to repair Muskegon and Webster avenues from Ninth Street to Spring Street.
Muskegon Public Works Director Mohammed Al-Shatel said on Thursday that the road will be reconstructed and will retain its two-lane, two-way configuration.
A designated left-turn lane may or may not be part of the street's restoration.
Al-Shatel said the city will invite residents and business owners living or operating in the vicinity to a meeting to see what type of amenities they want to incorporate along the roadway.
Such features could include sidewalks and bike lanes, he said.
Some residents and Muskegon City Commission officials in recent years have pushed to change the traffic configuration back to its four-lane, one-way residential configuration and to adopt a "Complete Street" concept that satisfies pedestrians and motorists regardless of physical ability or transit choice.
The U.S. 31 Business Route designation moved from Muskegon and Webster avenues to Shoreline Drive about 10 years ago.
Vice Mayor Larry Spataro said last year that although the separation between the Nelson Neighborhood and downtown business district was once "deliberate," the city now had to knit the residential community and city center together.
Al-Shatel told commissioners in October that restriping Muskegon and Webster avenues from Spring to Ninth streets could cost $56,000, while another measure to remove traffic lights could cost $10,000.
At that time, the commission came to a consensus to delay any possible street reconfiguration and traffic light removal efforts until funds were available.
State Sen. Goeff Hansen (R-Hart) said he had been working with local road agencies and state officials to make funding one of his top priorities and said it was important for rural and urban projects to benefit from the most recent allocations.
"It has not been easy to obtain this funding, but the hard work has paid off, and the residents of the district will be pleased with the result," Hansen said on Thursday."

What Emergency? CBO Says Just $25 Million of Obama’s $3.7 Billion Border Bill Would Be Spent This Summer

What Emergency? CBO Says Just $25 Million of Obama’s $3.7 Billion Border Bill Would Be Spent This Summer | TheBlaze.com:
An analysis of President Barack Obama’s huge budget request for the border shows that it would only spend $25 million for the rest of the current fiscal year, which Senate Budget Committee ranking member Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) said means Congress should be in no rush to pass it.
“CBO analysis suggests that only $25 million out of the $4.3 billion request will be spent this year. What does that mean?” Sessions asked. “It means we ought to slow down, and there is no basis to demand a $4.3 billion increase in spending, emergency spending.”
Obama has requested $3.7 billion for the border, and another $600 million to fight wildfires. But according to CBO, just $25 million would be spent during the rest of FY 2014, which ends in September. Most of the rest of it would be spent in 2015, and spending would continue through 2020.
In addition, all of the spending in 2014 would take place in the Department of Health and Human Services. Obama’s plan would give the Department of Homeland Security $1.1 billion, but none of that money would be used until FY 2015.
