The joke may be on taxpayers:

"At about this point in the TV show, Elaine would turn to Jerry, smile and say, “Well, they could just start euthanizing state workers.” 

Then George might chime in: “That wouldn’t be wrong, would it?” 

 Thanks to story lines and characters created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, that comedy series featured some of TV’s most self-centered, self-absorbed New Yorkers who ever cracked a seriously funny joke.

But, even in scripted humor, there is truth.

And the truth is that California’s retiring public employees living longer creates a huge problem."
