According the the IEA, https://lnkd.in/gvmh2HyT, solar and wind use about 5-10 times more metals per unit of electricity generating capacity than natural gas. 
And because that capacity does not work most of the time, the metal use per kWh generated is even heavier.
The IEA only tells part of the story. 
  • The path to a 100% renewable future requires way more metals than they disclose, because they largely ignore adequate battery backup...
