The next big fail? Dozens (and dozens) of schools not only failing to educate, but going broke whilst doing so!--------Essexville-Hampton school employees asked to take 6% wage cut; district is again $600,000 in debt

Essexville-Hampton school employees asked to take 6% wage cut; district is again $600,000 in debt | MLive.com:
"ESSEXVILLE, MI — For the second time in four years, Essexville-Hampton Public Schools is hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and administrators are now asking all employees to take wage cuts.
Employees across the board are being asked to cut 6 percent from their wages and benefits in order to climb out of a $600,000 hole, and not everyone is on board with the plan.
The school board on Monday, Nov. 10, approved the latest two-year state deficit elimination plan.
In 2010, the school board approved a deficit plan that included wage freezes and cuts to health benefits to eliminate $653,000 of debt."

An amazing chart of an amazing job-creating state; we owe a debt of gratitude to ‘Saudi Texas’ and the shale boom

Carpe Diem Archives » AEI
The chart shows a most amazing economic phenomenon: Since December 2007 when the Great Recession started, Texas civilian employment has increased by 12.4% and by more than 1.36 million jobs, from just over 11 million jobs in December 2007 to 12.37 million in October of this year (see blue line in chart). In contrast, civilian employment in the other 49 states without Texas is still 0.26% and more than 350,000 jobs below the December 2007 level (see red line in chart) — there were 134.9 million non-Texas jobs in October vs. 135.26 million in December 2007.
It’s also important to note that while job growth in Texas slowed considerably in 2008 and 2009 due to the recession, the level of civilian employment in Texas never fell below its pre-recessionary, December 2007 level. Also, while Texas was able to actually increase jobs slightly even during the depths of the recession in 2008 and 2009, the US labor market minus Texas experienced a stunning loss of 8.374 million jobs (a percentage drop of 6.2%) in the two year period between December 2007 and December 2009.

The protests in Ferguson, Mo., on Friday night grew larger than previous days’ gatherings of protesters, despite the rain and cold weather. Police officers used a megaphone to ask protesters to leave the street outside the Ferguson Police Department or they would be arrested. In this video, protesters responded by chanting ”F— the police” and shouting “We don’t give a f— about your laws like you don’t give a f— about our lives.” Warning: Video contains foul language.

Thankfully, school officials intervened and suspended the aspiring sci-fi villain, according to whdh.com:
School officials said the 10-year-old's actions indicated a threat, but his family didn't agree.

Feds boxed up, forgot 12,000 FOIA requests | WashingtonExaminer.com:

"Department of Homeland Security officials boxed up and forgot about 12,000 Freedom of Information Act unanswered requests, according to an angry Texas congressman.

“It is not acceptable for DHS’s FOIA requests to go unanswered,” said Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas. “The American people deserve a transparent and efficient department where efforts are not duplicative and taxpayer dollars are effectively and efficiently used. I hope DHS takes immediate action to correct this unproductive process and provide the information requested by and for the American people.”

The founders warned of Obama’s executive order on immigration in this 1787 letter | TheBlaze.com:
"While Cato’s Anti-Federalist Letter IV may have anticipated unconstitutional usurpation of power by presidents, it is perhaps the language of his Letter V, dated almost 227 years ago to the day, November 22, 1787, that is most striking when juxtaposed with President Obama’s executive order on immigration."

2014 House Bill 5477: Replace per-gallon fuel tax with higher wholesale tax (Senate Roll Call 662)
facebook  twitter
Passed 23 to 14 in the Senate on November 13, 2014, to replace the current 19-cent per gallon gas tax and 15-cent diesel tax with a 9.5 percent wholesale fuel tax, gradually increasing to 15.5 percent in 2018. When fully phased-in this would represent a tax hike of around $1.0 billion at current wholesale fuel prices, or around 10 cents per gallon. When in place, the tax could only rise or fall by 5 percent per year even if wholesale prices rose or fell faster.

Dear Mr. Obama, It Must Be Good to Be King | TheBlaze.com

Dear Mr. Obama, It Must Be Good to Be King | TheBlaze.com:

"Dear President Obama, Lord, Sultan, Emperor, Pharaoh, Caesar, God-king, Prince of the Americas, whatever we’re supposed to call you. ‘President’ alone simply won’t suffice, will it, Your Grace? We had a thing called a president once, but that lowly office could scarcely contain your Majesty. You found that you couldn’t effectively govern while constrained by the rule of law, so you superseded it, just as you’ve done countless times before. This time you are waving your mighty scepter and magically granting defacto citizenship to millions of illegal aliens."

This is an excellent letter.  I wish the author a harassment free life.

TaxProf Blog: The IRS Scandal, Day 562
Wall Street Journal:  IRS Finds Missing Emails of Former Top Official Lerner in Targeting Probe:
The watchdog agency for the Internal Revenue Service said it has found as many as 30,000 missing emails that could be relevant to a long-running congressional inquiry into alleged IRS targeting of conservative groups.
Investigators for the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration recently recovered the emails from IRS backup tapes, according to a spokeswoman for the watchdog agency. The emails belong to a former top IRS official, Lois Lerner, who has been a focus of congressional inquiries. ...
Top IRS officials had told lawmakers that backup tapes were routinely recycled and therefore weren't useful in the effort to find the missing email records. The agency said it had used other employees’ hard drives to recover thousands of the missing emails.
But TIGTA investigators succeeded in locating thousands of Ms. Lerner’s emails on the backup tapes. ...
The IRS said in a statement: “As Commissioner Koskinen has stated, the IRS welcomes TIGTA’s independent review and expert forensic analysis. Commissioner Koskinen has said for some time he would be pleased if additional Lois Lerner emails from this time frame could be found.”
The revelations promise to draw new attention to the targeting controversy, just before lawmakers return to Washington for the new Congress next year. TIGTA officials told lawmakers on Friday about the discovery of the missing emails, but congressional aides said it could take some weeks before the emails are sorted and in shape to examine. The emails must be decrypted and in some cases must be redacted to remove taxpayer-identifying information, aides said.
