"Hurricane Irma has left death and destruction in her wake and Hurricane Jose is right behind her promising more.

Entire islands have been destroyed, families torn apart, and property wiped out.
This crippling devastation so close to the last hurricane in Texas, from which people are still reeling, is tough to take.
These people require our unceasing prayers and help, not scorn and snark.

So who would be cold-blooded enough to savage hurricane victims?
Rabid sufferers of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). These are people who were so blindsided by a Clinton loss that they can't see past their election night rage and are wishing destruction on all the Trump voters in Florida along with Trump properties...

They're rooting...for the hurricane.

"Economics: Florida grocery store shelves were empty and 40% of the gas stations in Miami were out of gas in advance of Hurricane Irene.
But at least no one is price gouging, right?

Florida, like other states, has a price-gouging law that bans retailers from jacking up prices for food, water, ice, petroleum products and other products during a state-declared state of emergency. Someone caught selling at prices that "grossly exceed" the average over the previous 30 days faces second-degree misdemeanor charges.
...But while Florida's price-gouging law might help protect residents from high prices during an emergency, it can't protect them from the immutable laws of economics.
Whatever the intent of these price-gouging prohibitions, the result is always the same: rampant shortages.
That's because they are, in effect, government-imposed price caps.
And price caps always produce shortages.
So, while Florida tries to stamp out price gouging, its grocery stores' shelves are empty, and gas stations are running out of gas.
...The truth is that while jacking up prices during an emergency seems unethical, it can be the best way to deal with an emergency situation.
High prices not only discourage hoarders, they also send up a flare to suppliers to rush more into production and bring more into the region.
...As George Mason University economist Tyler Cowen noted, "price gouging, despite its obnoxious-sounding name, is usually the best of a set of bad alternatives.""

“It has the capability to produce significant damage to critical infrastructures and thus to the very fabric of U.S. society, as well as to the ability of the United States and Western nations to project influence and military power...”

Speaker of the New Hampshire House Shawn Jasper, a Republican, issued the findings on Thursday based on inquiries he made to the Department of State, which oversees elections, and the Department of Safety."

What Should China, South Korea, and the U.S. Do About North Korea?

"...On the political side, there's useful peace in The National Interest headlined, "Here Is What Chinese Scholars Think about the North Korea Crisis."

The author, Lyle Goldstein, admits up front that "it has not been possible to develop a relatively comprehensive typology of Chinese assessments regarding the Korean nuclear issue."

China's contradictory approach might best be summed up here:

The scholar Li Kaisheng [李开盛] sees no basis for cooperation because of different interests and a fundamental lack of strategic trust between Beijing and Washington. Li explains that one of the major restraints on the United States possible use of force against North Korea has been “China’s opposition and even [the possibility] of Chinese counter-attack" [中国的反对甚至反击]. He also straightforwardly explains that China will not accept the removal of the North Korean ruling regime, because that would mean U.S. military power directly on China’s border and the loss of China’s “strategic buffer” [战略缓冲地带].

Beijing is generally assumed to hold the key to "solving" the problem of North Korean nukes — to whatever extent it can be solved.
The problem is that China apparently wants it all.

To see what I mean, here's a (very) broad outline of possible outcomes:

• The status quo.

• Chinese political or military action against North Korea's nuclear program, up to and perhaps including installing a new regime.

• U.S./R.O.K. military action short of regime change.

• U.S./R.O.K. military action including regime change, and/or forceful reunification with the South.

• There's also the possibility of something like a repeat of the Six Party Talks and a diplomatic resolution. But given that Pyongyang has not and will not live up to any promises to abandon or even limit its nuclear program, this option is really just part of the Status Quo option.

Let's take the main four options one at a time..."
