U.S. Student Loan Debt Hits Staggering $1.5 Trillion | Trending:
"The amount of outstanding student loan debt just hit a staggering number: $1.5 trillion.
An important statistic associated with this number?
Image result for clueless WomenWomen hold nearly two-thirds of all U.S. student debt, according to a report recently published by the American Association of University Women.
CNN Money notes that one reason women hold more debt than men is because more women go to college than their male counterparts.
In fact, 56 percent of students who enrolled in higher education in fall of 2016 were women.
But that's not all. "More women take out loans, and when they do, they borrow more money.
The average woman owes $2,740 more than a man upon finishing a bachelor's degree...
Women are also repaying their debt more slowly, which can mean they're paying more in interest over time."
Student loan debt seems to be a bigger source of strain on Americans than other common forms of debt, such as auto loan debt (which is currently at $1.1 trillion) and credit card debt (which currently stands at $977 billion)..."

The self-proclaimed “Satanist,” Kenneth Mayle, had sued the United States government, claiming that the National Motto – “In God We Trust” – on currency violates his constitutional rights under the Free Speech and Free Exercise Clauses. Specifically, Mayle claimed that, in holding and using currency, he is compelled to proclaim the “existence of” and “trust in” God, which contradicts his Satanist beliefs."

"Americans generally get a failing grade when it comes to knowing our “patriotic songs.”
know more people who can recite “America, F—k Yeah” from Team America than “America the Beautiful.”
“Yankee Doodle”?

No one older than a fifth-grader in chorus class remembers the full song. “God Bless America”?
More people know the Rev. Jeremiah Wright remix than the actual full lyrics of the song.
...In the case of our national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” perhaps not knowing the full lyrics is a good thing.
It is one of the most racist, pro-slavery, anti-black songs in the American lexicon, and you would be wise to cut it from your Fourth of July playlist..."

California Conservatives Remember Reagan, Await His Successor | National Review

California Conservatives Remember Reagan, Await His Successor | National Review
"...Of course, it is common to have a nostalgic view of Ronald Reagan, as model of genial, principled conservatism that might return to accelerate California’s salvation.
But a review of the 1966 gubernatorial campaign reveals one of the nastiest races in California memory.
Reagan gave back everything that Edmund Brown Sr. dished out to him, and won by rivaling a later Trump in his often cruel invective.
Reagan castigated “welfare bums,” and promised to clean up the “mess” at Berkeley.
Image result for California Conservatives Remember ReaganAnd when governor, after failed popular demands that he be recalled, Reagan kept at it with rhetoric that again rivals Trump’s worst.
Of the People’s Park demonstrations, he declared, “If it takes a bloodbath, let’s get it over with.
No more appeasement.”
And he joked that he hoped the free food for poor communities leveraged by the terrorist SLA might be infected by botulism.
Quite simply, Reagan did not call for a thousand points of light or a kinder, gentler state.
Reagan was an effective governor, but the idea that he was a uniter is also simply not true, at least not until his second presidential term.
He turned a blue state red by damning the Democrats’ expansion of welfare dependency and promised to crack down hard on criminals and cheats (e.g., putting “the welfare bums back to work”).
...He won the governorship in part through his prior renegade stance at the boisterous 1964 San Francisco Republican convention, when he joined the right-wing populist Goldwater, who snatched the nomination from the old-guard low-energy Rockefeller Republicans.
He further infuriated the Republican status quo by running a last-minute insurgent campaign for president against the establishmentarian Nixon in 1968, and in 1976 by challenging Republican incumbent President Jerry Ford — an acrimonious, insurrectionary, and divisive primary for which Reagan was later blamed for the Carter victory.
Indeed, the Republican establishment, despite its current nostalgia, never much liked Reagan until he won the presidency, blasting him as a yahoo who wanted to keep the Panama Canal or a voodoo economist who thought that cutting taxes and spending more on defense would lead to balanced budgets..."

Image result for Medicare’s main trust fund is in even worse shape,"Social Security will spend more than it collects this year, the program’s trustees said Tuesday, marking the first time in more than 35 years that it will run an annual deficit as it slides toward insolvency by 2034.
Medicare’s main trust fund is in even worse shape, scheduled to hit insolvency in 2026 — three years earlier than last year’s estimate, the trustees said.
The twin warnings add even more pressure to a budget already strained by last year’s tax cuts and this year’s deal to boost spending on defense and basic domestic needs, leaving few bright spots in the federal fiscal picture..."

“Due to the historic obstruction by Senate Democrats of the president’s nominees, and the goal of passing appropriations bills prior to the end of the fiscal year, the August recess has been canceled,” Mr. McConnell said in a statement.
The Kentucky Republican pointed to President Trump’s statement in March that he won’t sign another massive “omnibus” spending bill, after the president had threatened to veto the $1.3 trillion bill that funds the government through September."

Boys can wear skirts to school... but not shorts - Henley Standard

Boys can wear skirts to school... but not shorts - Henley Standard:
Image result for Boys can wear skirts to school... but not shortsBoys can wear skirts to school... but not shorts
TEENAGE boys have been told they can’t wear shorts at school if they’re too hot — but they can put on a skirt.
Chiltern Edge School in Sonning Common says that shorts are not part of its new uniform and that students must stick to the rules, which state that only trousers or skirts can be worn.
But a parent who queried this was told that the uniform policy was “gender neutral” and that if a boy didn’t want to wear trousers in hot weather he could put on a skirt instead.

...Alastair Vince-Porteous, from Caversham, contacted the school to ask whether his 13-year-old son could wear a pair of tailored, grey shorts as he suffers regular nose bleeds which become more frequent when it is hot.
He said: “I wanted to try to make him a bit cooler and the shorts would help with that but I was told shorts are not part of the uniform.
“I know that in the past boys at other schools have worn skirts so I asked if he would be able to do that if he wanted and they said ‘yes’.
“They mentioned its policy being gender neutral, which is a very modern thing.”...

Kill the tech bro, save the world: how CEOs became Hollywood's new supervillains | Technology | The Guardian

Kill the tech bro, save the world: how CEOs became Hollywood's new supervillains | Technology | The Guardian:

Hollywood has a history of drawing on collective fears.
The dawn of the atomic age saw a boom in world-ending disasters, James Bond battled Russians all throughout the cold war, and the post-9/11 era saw a grimly predictable rise in Arab and Muslim bad-guys.
And so it follows, that in the past few years – as the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have accrued more power, wealth and influence than most governments – the face of villainy has changed again.
Since the turn of the decade, blockbusters have increasingly cast Silicon Valley’s tech-bros as supervillains.
And it’s not hard to see why.
Whether it’s the image of a pallid Zuckerberg hauled up in front of congress for disrupting democracy, or Jeff Bezos tweeting images of himself piloting giant robots, their public image has been less than gleaming.
The meek have inherited the earth, and now they seem hellbent on destroying it.
Until recently of course, blockbuster nerds were benevolent figures.
...How things have changed..."

Sye tore into Trump during a discussion about the president disinviting the Philadelphia Eagles from their White House victory celebration after only a handful of players committed to attending.
...“We’re now going to end up in a midterm where we’re talking about the national anthem,” she added.
“The national anthem is problematic in and of itself.
There is a second verse that Colin Kaepernick brought attention to that has yet to be discussed on broad platforms.”

Tom Homan, who has been acting as the chief at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement since the beginning of the Trump administration, said even the talk of a renewed immigration debate on Capitol Hill will entice people to make the perilous journey to try to jump the border, saying during his nearly 35 years in immigration enforcement he’s seen it happen “every time you talk about some sort of benefit” such as legal status for illegal immigrants."

Medicare Will Be Insolvent In 2026, Sooner Than Expected; Social Security To Follow In 2034 | Zero Hedge

Medicare Will Be Insolvent In 2026, Sooner Than Expected; Social Security To Follow In 2034 | Zero Hedge:
"Medicare's trust fund has just eight more years of solvency until 2026, and Social Security will be exhausted in 2034, according to Thursday projections by the trustees for the government programs.
While Social Security's expected depletion is unchanged from last year's projection, the date for Medicare's demise was moved up three years.
Social Security is made up of several funds; the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) and Disability Insurance (DI) are combined for the designation OASDI, while Medicare's Hospital Insurance trust fund is designated HI.
If allowed to expire, beneficiaries would face an immediate reduction of around 20% in benefits.
The costs of Medicare and Social Security will increase substantially as a percentage of GDP through 2035 due to a sharp rise in beneficiaries as baby-boomers retire, and lower birth rates that have persisted since the baby boom resulting in slower growth of the labor force and GDP..."
