Can An 'OS For Electricity' Double the Efficiency of the Grid? - Slashdot
"New submitter mesterha shares an "interesting article [from Vox] on how to optimize our use of electricity":
Waste on the grid is the result of poor power quality, which can be ameliorated through digital control.
Image result for energy reduction of around 15%Real-time measurement makes that possible.
3DFS technology, which the company conceives of as an "operating system for electricity,"... perfectly adapting it to the load it serves, eliminating waste."
"They claim energy reduction of around 15% but anticipate their AI tuning can get eventually get 30%," writes Slashdot reader mesterha.
"Seems too good to be true, but it has the support of publications like Popular Mechanics." [3DFS won one of Popular Mechanics' "breakthrough awards" in 2017.]

30 percent of federal prisoners are immigrants: DOJ/DHS - Washington Times:

Image result for flickr commons images prison cellImmigrants accounted for more than 30 percent of the federal prison population and nearly all of them are confirmed or suspected illegal immigrants, the government said in a new report Tuesday.
The government said it had 57,820 migrants in its prisons as of Dec. 31, Homeland Security and the Justice Department said in the joint report.
Nearly 20,000 other immigrants were held in pretrial detention by the U.S. Marshals Service, most of them in contracted facilities, costing the government $134 million for just three months. That works out to nearly $90 a day for each person in those contract facilities.

There Are More Jobs Than People Out of Work, Something the American Economy Has Never Experienced Before - Slashdot:
Image result for happy workers"The jobs market has reached what should be some kind of inflection point: there are now more openings than there are workers.
From a report:
April marked the second month in a row this historic event has occurred, and the gap is growing. According to the monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey released this week, there were just shy of 6.7 million open positions in April, the most recent month for which data are available. That represented an increase of 65,000 from March and is a record.
The number of vacancies is pulling well ahead of the number the Bureau of Labor Statistics counts as unemployed.
This year is the first time the level of the unemployed exceeded the jobs available since the BLS started tracking JOLTS numbers in 2000..."

QUICK THINKING.

On July 25th, 2017, a military checkpoint in North Sinai, Egypt, faced an oncoming attack by a suicide bomber. As you’ll see in the video released by the Egyptian Ministry of Defense,  a sedan was racing toward the gates while many civilian cars were backed up.
A quick thinking tank crew, however, stepped into action and saved the day.
The suicide car was filled with 100 kg of explosives.
Crushing the car at the risk of it exploding was the first act of valor for this crew. Once it didn’t blow under them, they turned around and shielded the other cars on the road with their own tank, once again exposing themselves to danger. According to a press release from independent.co.uk, they saved over 50 people’s lives.
Sadly, seven civilians including two children were killed in the blast.
No terrorist entities have claimed responsibility for the attack as of now.

Image result for flickr commons images california flag"California Democratic leaders like Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi and Dianne Feinstein seem to think their extreme progressive policies are in line with the ideals of most Americans. Glenn Beck would argue just the opposite. In fact, Californians are fleeing the Golden State in droves. According to a recent poll, nearly half of the Bay Area's residents want to move out; unaffordable housing and sky-high taxes have driven more than 138,000 people out of the state in one year alone, and over a million since 2007. On today's show, Glenn touched on some of the progressive policies that are driving California's mass exodus."

"'The Saint Paul Public Library announced a summer series called "Drag Story Hours" as part of its “We Belong Together" initiative.
For generations, libraries were places where people went to borrow books, learn about the past, and kindle imaginations.
Today, however, they occasionally find themselves at the forefront of the culture war.
A case in point can be found in the Saint Paul Public Library (SPPL), where officials on Monday announced they would be offering a new summer series on cross-dressing—“Drag Story Hours—that is open to children and adults..."

Liberal Free Pass

By Tammy Derouin

Image result for free clip art Free PassThis past week we witnessed liberal hypocrisy and the political double standard take center stage. Two abhorrent comments were made by two different entertainers. One entertainer lost her show and the other went on to receive an award and praise for her so called talents. Spewing obnoxious monologues is not something I deem worthy of praise. For the Left, it's become an acceptable practice as long as they are the ones attacking. It would be racists, sexist and any other word they could conjure up should the same treatment be turned on them.

Should we really be surprised that the outcome was different for each individual? Anyone who has paid even the slightest bit of attention should know that when someone on the Left is called out for their actions, excuses fly and a scripted apology is supposed to make everything all better. We are, after all, dealing with those who live and work in the land of make believe. It's only a mistake if the Left-wing spin doctors are unable to cover up or rewrite the narrative. Of course, there's the possibility that the apology will be taken back, especially if one feels a surge of liberal support after the apology has been issued. Appearing on talk shows where everyone is prompted to applaud on demand usually does the trick.

Another excuse, which is gaining momentum and is not only absurd but extremely dangerous, is that there is something wrong with an individual who doesn't agree with the Left-wing party line. The Left is truly showing their true colors when they attack anyone who doesn't think inside of their progressive, debilitating box. They claim to believe in individual freedom yet they attack like a pack of wolves when one of their own deviates from the script. They come unglued when someone thinks for themselves. They have to brand the free and independent thinker as the trouble maker. They cannot risk being exposed for the enslaving and anti-freedom policies and ideologies that they support.

A liberal free pass is waiting for those who blindly follow the agenda of the Left.......

The 'Masterpiece Cakeshop' ruling is actually a win for LGBT rights - Glenn Beck

The 'Masterpiece Cakeshop' ruling is actually a win for LGBT rights - Glenn Beck:

Image result for flickr commons images first of amendment"The left insists that this case is about "gay rights," but no one has the right to force their beliefs onto others — and that kind of ideological animosity isn't exactly endearing. It often backfires, and isn't the way to truly promote tolerance or acceptance.
If anything, this decision didn't go far enough. The Court ruled 7-2 in favor of the baker, but it was a narrow ruling in scope, and it didn't hand down any broad declarations protecting free speech or individual conscience rights. The Court focused on the facts of this case, and cited the religious animosity shown by Colorado as an excuse to decline to set a precedent that could be broadly applied to future cases."

The Gross Unfairness of Title IX Goes National - Minding The Campus

The Gross Unfairness of Title IX Goes National - Minding The Campus
"Two national publications—the New York Times and the Atlantic—have recently reported on procedural abuses in the Title IX system.
Both pieces are must-reads, and reminders of how the one-sided nature of campus Title IX tribunals, analyzed for years mostly by smaller media outlets like this one, has at last decisively permeated mainstream media.
Michael Powell’s New York Times article on Keith Mumphery and Michigan State is extraordinary, one of the best single items written on the issue since its emergence with the 2011 “Dear Colleague” letter to colleges from the Office of Civil Rights in President Obama’s Department of Education.
The story that Powell relays is a deeply troubling one, even for the genre of Title IX cases: Mumphery was initially found not guilty by a Michigan State system that is heavily tilted structurally toward accusers. (The police also declined to file charges against him.)
But the case wasn’t over—his accuser, taking advantage of the “Dear Colleague” mandate that schools adhere to double-jeopardy principles in campus sex tribunals, appealed the not-guilty finding.
By this point, Mumphery wasn’t even at MSU anymore; he was prepping for his NFL career. He never received notice of the appeal, which was sent to an inactive MSU e-mail account. (Michigan State refused to answer Powell’s question of whether the university had any reason to believe Mumphery ever knew of the appeal.)
Michigan State’s appeals process, relying on the same evidence the university and police had previously deemed insufficient, found him guilty.
Moreover, the harm here was obvious: Mumphery lost all chance of an NFL career because of Michigan State’s handling of his case.
The Houston Texans cut him after word of the granted appeal became public (through a Detroit Free Press article that didn’t mention the initial not-guilty finding), and it seems clear that without some sort of intervention from team owners, coaches, sportswriters or ordinary fair-minded people, he won’t be getting another NFL opportunity soon..."

The Last A6M3 Zero - Her Soul-Crushing Story Will Leave You Speechless - World War Wings

The Last A6M3 Zero - Her Soul-Crushing Story Will Leave You Speechless - World War Wings
"...An estimated 11,000 A6M Zeros were produced during WWII, a number far beyond any other Japanese fighters yet this plane remains an absolute rarity with only a handful of non-replica models still in existence.
A6M Zero designs nearing the end of WWII were different from other previous models because they had no bulletproof glass, no self-sealing fuel tanks and a very fragile frame.
By 1944 the A6M Zeros weren’t meant for dogfights, they were meant for suicide missions.
The video that follows shows the last existing A6M3 model on earth and the painful story of the men who piloted the plane that once ruled the skies over the Pacific."
