Lebanese tourist sentenced to eight years in prison for ...:
CAIRO, July 7 (Reuters) - A Lebanese tourist who was arrested last month for posting a video on Facebook complaining of sexual harassment and conditions in Egypt was sentenced to eight years in prison by a Cairo court on Saturday, her lawyer told Reuters.
Mona el-Mazboh was arrested at Cairo airport at the end of her stay in Egypt after a 10-minute video in which she called Egypt a "son of a bitch country" went viral on social media.
See the source imageThe 24-year-old Mazboh complains of being sexually harassed by taxi drivers and young men in the street, as well as poor restaurant service during the holy month of Ramadan and an incident in which money was stolen from her during a previous stay.
A Cairo court found her guilty of deliberately spreading false rumours that would harm society, attacking religion, and public indecency, judicial sources said.
An appeal court will now hear the case on July 29, according to Mazboh's lawyer, Emad Kamal.
"Of course, God willing, the verdict will change.
With all due respect to the judiciary, this is a severe ruling.
It is in the context of the law, but the court was applying the maximum penalty," he said.

High-Fructose Corn Syrup And Sucrose - Is There A Health Difference? | Science 2.0

High-Fructose Corn Syrup And Sucrose - Is There A Health Difference? | Science 2.0
"High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is made from corn starch whereas sucrose us usually made from sugarcane or beets.
Because starch itself is a simple sugar, a chain of glucose molecules joined together, once it's broken down into individual glucose molecules, it's corn syrup, which is essentially 100% glucose.
It becomes high-fructose corn syrup when enzymes are added.
See the source imageHFCS is sometimes called isoglucose and is used in the food industry to sweeten processed foods such as soft drinks, creams, cakes, confectionery, yogurts etc. to keep costs lower. It's sweeter than regular sugar, more like honey.
...In this case, it can be expected that there are no differences or no significant differences between isoglucose and sucrose from a nutritional perspective and that their health assessments are thus also similar.
...Still, despite conceding all of the reasonable stuff, they still declare that HFCS can contribute to metabolic syndrome as well as lipometabolic disorders, fatty liver, obesity and type 2 diabetes.
But so can any sugar, so why singly out HFCS for that part?

An illegal alien who was released by a sanctuary city has received a small $280 fine after causing a car crash that left two law enforcement officers dead.
Roberto Garza Palacios, a 28-year-old illegal alien from Guatemala...
See the source image...On the night that the illegal alien killed the two law enforcement officers, Wolff was on Interstate 270 after crashing his car on the median. Cohen pulled over with his hazard lights to help Wolff.
That’s when Garza Palacios drove up on the scene of the accident and hit Wolff and Cohen, propelling them off the concrete wall.
The illegal alien said he did not see the two men and he was not found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the deadly crash.
Now, the illegal alien will receive no jail time and did not even have to appear in court for the fatal accident.
...“He just pays $280, and that’s all he has to do,” Marla said.
Garza Palacios had been previously convicted in the U.S. and was released by the sanctuary city of Montgomery County, Maryland.
Three years before the deadly car crash, Garza Palacios was arrested in Montgomery County.
At the time, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency asked the sanctuary city to hold the illegal alien in prison until they could take him into custody.
The sanctuary city refused and released Garza Palacios back into the public.
In 2015, the illegal alien pleaded guilty to drunk driving and was also arrested and convicted that same year for breaking the windows of 16 vehicles and starting a fire.
Garza Palacios served four months in prison and was eventually released back into the public.
ICE officials say that the illegal alien has been taken into custody and is facing deportation after overstaying his visa which expired in 2009..."

Surgical Robots Cut Training Time Down From 80 Sessions To 30 Minutes - Slashdot:
"From a report:
It is the most exacting of surgical skills: tying a knot deep inside a patient's abdomen, pivoting long graspers through keyhole incisions with no direct view of the thread.
Image result for Versius, the world's smallest surgical robot,Trainee surgeons typically require 60 to 80 hours of practice, but in a mock-up operating theatre outside Cambridge, a non-medic with just a few hours of experience is expertly wielding a hook-shaped needle -- in this case stitching a square of pink sponge rather than an artery or appendix.
The feat is performed with the assistance of Versius, the world's smallest surgical robot, which could be used in NHS operating theatres for the first time later this year if approved for clinical use.
Versius is one of a handful of advanced surgical robots that are predicted to transform the way operations are performed by allowing tens or hundreds of thousands more surgeries each year to be carried out as keyhole procedures.
The Versius robot cuts down the time required to learn to tie a surgical knot from more than 100 training sessions, when using traditional manual tools, to just half an hour, according to Slack."

SCOTUS Says Immigrants Are Not Owed The Same Constitutional Protections As Regular Americans - Great American Republic

SCOTUS Says Immigrants Are Not Owed The Same Constitutional Protections As Regular Americans - Great American Republic:

Image result for flickr commons images supreme courtThere is one thing that the Supreme Court has been consistent on down through the years. That issue has to do with the rights, if any, of illegal immigrants. The Alt-Left, the Democrats, and the mainstream media would have you believe that the rights of these illegals are the same as yours. That is nowhere near the truth. In this article, you can see the many decisions that the Supreme Court has ruled upon in the past. They have overruled District Courts that have overstepped the Constitution. They have defined exactly what we owe to people seeking to gain admission to the nation. In a word – Nothing.

Victor Davis Hanson: Never Trumpers Told Us Trump Would Be Liberal, He Wasn't; No Alternative Agenda | Video | RealClearPolitics
"Victor Davis Hanson of the Hoover Institution is interviewed by FOX News' Tucker Carlson on the lack of agenda from the left and how the anti-Trump faction was wrong about him.
VICTOR DAVIS HANSON: Barack Obama got elected twice but he was an ungodly disaster for the Democratic party. They lost the supermajority, they lost the Senate, they lost the House, they lost 1,000 local state and local offices, they're going to lose the Supreme Court. And they can't come to grips with the fact that they control popular cultural -- sports, universities, the media -- but that turns into this type of street theater you referenced. It doesn't transfer into actual political power and they're very frustrated.

The Never Trumpers told us that Trump would be a moderate or a liberal. He wasn't. The Heritage Foundation said he was more conservative in his first 2 years than Ronald Reagan. The left said he was going to implode or that the Mueller investigation, or impeachment, or the emoluments clause, or they were going to sue under the 25th Amendment. None of that happened. So Trump is almost 50% approval rating.

And the final thing is there's no alternative agenda. We don't know what your speaker, your guest, what do they feel about taxes? Do they want more government? More regulation? Less? Is the Iran deal good or bad? We don't hear any of that. Instead, they fixate on somebody like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, kind of an obscure 28-year-old who won an election with 20% turnout and suddenly that's a metaphor for a brave new world. So it's a frustration that they don't translate their cultural influence into raw political power.

Netflix Airs ‘Salute to Abortion;’ Host Declares: ‘God Bless Abortions!”
"On Sunday, Netflix aired a “Salute to Abortion,” hosted by “comedian” Michelle Wolf, who closed the segment with a star-spangled, flag-waving, drum corps declaration: “God bless abortion!”
On her weekly Netflix program, “The Break with Michelle Wolf,” Wolf used Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy’s announced retirement to tout abortion rights and demean pro-life Americans, with “jokes” like:
“And, I know, some people call themselves ‘pro-life’- but, ‘pro-life' is a propaganda term that isn’t real, like healthy ice cream and handsome testicles.”
Wolf closed by marching out on stage in a majorette’s costume, accompanied by a drum corps, and a huge banner reading, “The Break’s 10th Annual Salute to Abortion.” She then threw confetti after each of the following declarations:
“Abortion, I salute you!
“Women, if you need an abortion, get one!
“If you want an abortion, get one!
“If you’re not pregnant but you think you eventually might be and want to order a future abortion, get one!
“If you’re pregnant and you want to be pregnant, don’t get one!
“It’s up to you, and it doesn’t have to be a big deal. It’s actually a great deal. It’s about $300 – that’s like six movie tickets. Movie tickets: a big deal!
“And women, don’t forget: you have the power to give life and men will try to control that – don’t let them!
“God bless abortions and God bless America!”
Wolf made national headlines and sparked outrage as this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner host, when she personally attacked White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who was in the audience.

It’s Not Your Imagination, Airline Restrooms Are Getting Smaller - Bloomberg Quint
Image result for smaller lavatories on their planes"(Bloomberg) -- If the restroom on your next flight seems a bit snug, don’t assume you’ve picked up a few pounds.
U.S. airlines increasingly are putting smaller lavatories on their planes -- and the economics of the decision means they’re probably here to stay.
...Knee-bashing reductions to legroom and elbow-crunching cuts to seat size are well-known tactics. The latest method is to retrofit old aircraft and order new ones with svelte lavatories that allow for an extra row of seats.
...Consultant Samuel Engel said taking his 4-year-old son to the restroom during a recent four-hour flight was like a yoga exercise.
“We’re both compact people, but I still had to basically straddle him to be able to fit in the lav together,”...

Actually, Socialism Does Work | Power Line
"...But I think the truth is worse.
I think the leaders of the socialist movement are perfectly well aware that the inevitable result of socialism is tyranny and mass poverty.
But for them, this isn’t a bug, it is a feature.
In fact, it is the whole point.
Socialism is now, and always has been, a pretext under which power-mad psychopaths seize power and terrorize their fellow humans.
Viewed with cold realism, socialism works very well for those who bring it about.
  • It worked for Lenin and Stalin.
  • It almost worked for Trotsky, but socialism is like “Game of Thrones”–it is a risky business.
  • It didn’t work for the Old Bolsheviks for the same reason: they lost out to the more vicious and more power-crazed socialist, Stalin.
  • It worked for Yezhov, Yagoda and Beria, although they, too, lost out after years of demented revels.
  • It worked for Khruschev, Brezhnev and Andropov.
  • Socialism worked for Mao.
  • It worked for Fidel Castro.
  • It worked for Erich Honecker and Nicolae CeauÈ™escu, until the very end.
  • It worked for Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, again with sad ends that didn’t inflict anywhere near enough pain to negate the years of glory and power that went before.
  • It worked for Hugo Chavez, who like Castro, parlayed socialism into a multi-billion dollar fortune, and it has worked so far for Nicolas Maduro.

All of these psychopaths, and many others, got exactly what they wanted out of socialism.
From their point of view, it is a successful ideology.
While the vast majority suffer under socialism, such suffering is by no means universal.
Any number of commissars, Stasi informants, Cuban snitches, petty apparatchiks with dachas, etc., have parlayed their sadistic tendencies into good livings and what they want most, power over others.
If you follow Twitter, or generally pay attention to the American Left, you see an army of would-be commissars who yearn for the day when they can accuse a neighbor of wrongthink and have him sent to an American Gulag.
In the meantime, they settle for mob action, “doxxing,” and so on.
Socialism isn’t misguided, it is evil.
Socialism isn’t a failure, any more than the Black Death was a failure.
Sadly, it has worked all too well for more than a century."

Trump Resistance has to be defeated - Washington Times

Trump Resistance has to be defeated - Washington Times:
Image result for flickr commons images American Civil War
We are once again at a turning point in American history. This is as big of a fork in the road as the Civil War, the wars of the twentieth century, or even the American Revolution.
Why do I say that? Because if we lose this fight, America dies. Of course, it may live on for a period of time in name only, but everything we know about this great experiment in human governance will be lost. The freedom, the economic prosperity, the security for our children and grandchildren, will be gone.
It will be our fault for letting it happen.

Robert Davidson sued the USPS after they used an image of his replica for a series of Forever stamps created in 2010.
Davidson argued that his replica "brought a new face to the iconic statue - a face which audiences found appeared more 'fresh-faced,' 'sultry' and even 'sexier' than the original located in New York."
The postal service countered that because his statue was a replica and did not contain any original work, his copyright claim was invalid.
A federal judge agreed with Davidson and awarded him $3.5 million in damages.
Judge Eric Bruggink wrote that "a comparison of the two faces unmistakably shows that they are different” which makes the "the statue his own creation."

Hackers Stole 600 Gallons of Gas From Detroit Gas Station, Report Says - Slashdot:
"Police in Detroit are looking for two suspects who allegedly managed to hack a gas pump and steal over 600 gallons of gasoline, valued at about $1,800.
See the source imageFrom a report:
The theft took place in the middle of the day and went on for about 90 minutes, with the gas station attendant unable to thwart the hackers.
The theft, reported by Fox 2 Detroit, took place at around 1pm local time on June 23 at a Marathon gas station located about 15 minutes from downtown Detroit.
At least 10 cars are believed to have benefitted from the free-flowing gas pump, which still has police befuddled. Here's what is known about the supposed hack:
Per Fox 2 Detroit, the thieves used some sort of remote device that allowed them to hijack the pump and take control away from the gas station employee.
Police confirmed to the local publication that the device prevented the clerk from using the gas station's system to shut off the individual pump."
