Texas Democrats ask noncitizens to register to vote - Washington Times:
The Texas Democratic Party asked noncitizens to register to vote, sending out applications to immigrants with the box citizenship already checked “Yes,” according to complaints filed Thursday asking prosecutors to see what laws may have been broken.
The Public Interest Legal Foundation alerted district attorneys and the Justice Department to the prechecked applications and included a signed affidavit from a man who said some of his relatives, who aren’t citizens, received the mailing.
“This is how the Texas Democratic Party is inviting foreign influence in an election in a federal election cycle,” said Logan Churchwell, spokesman for the Public Interest Legal Foundation. The group has made its mark by policing states’ voter registration practices.

In two papers — published today in the journals Environmental Research Letters and Joule — Harvard University researchers find that the transition to wind or solar power in the U.S.
- would require five to 20 times more land than previously thought, and, if such large-scale wind farms were built,
- would warm average surface temperatures over the continental U.S. by 0.24 degrees Celsius..."

Romer won based on his conceptual overthrow of old-fashioned limits-to-growth economics.
As the Nobel Committee notes, Romer "showed that growth driven by the accumulation of ideas, unlike growth driven by the accumulation of physical capital, does not have to experience decreasing returns.
In other words, ideas-driven growth can be sustained over time."
Economic growth and wealth creation is limited only if one believes that human ingenuity is limited.
In my 2001 Reason article "Post-Scarcity Prophet," I explained that Romer's "New Growth Theory shows that economic growth doesn't arise just from adding more labor to more capital, but from new and better ideas expressed as technological progress.
Along the way, it transforms economics from a 'dismal science' that describes a world of scarcity and diminishing returns into a discipline that reveals a path toward constant improvement and unlimited potential.
Ideas, in Romer's formulation, really do have consequences.

We have posted pictures showing QF-16s, Mu-2s, and yes, F-22s, sitting among the rubble inside badly damaged hangars at the base.
The USAF has stated that aircraft were left behind, with unofficial figures being reported that range from three to 18 of the precious super fighters riding out the storm on site.
Even though I repeatedly explained why not all aircraft can fly off in advance of a storm's arrival, I have been inundated with tweets, Facebook messages, emails, and comments ranging from people demanding to know how this could have happened to being outraged that the commanders at the base didn't see that all of the planes flew out and that they should face stiff punishments for their actions. Some even claimed they should have been flown out on transport planes.
These are naive and in some cases absurd statements that are totally divorced from the reality of tactical jet operations.
