  • The drug cartels extend their corrupting influence northward.

"Beheadings and amputations. Iraqi-style brutality, bribery, extortion, kidnapping, and murder.
More than 7,200 dead—almost double last year’s tally—in shoot-outs between federales and often better-armed drug cartels.
This is modern Mexico, whose president, Felipe Calderón, has been struggling since 2006 to wrest his country from the grip of four powerful cartels and their estimated 100,000 foot soldiers.
But chillingly, there are signs that one of the worst features of Mexico’s war on drugs—law enforcement officials on the take from drug lords—is becoming an American problem as well.
Most press accounts focus on the drug-related violence that has migrated north into the United States. Far less widely reported is the infiltration and corruption of American law enforcement, according to Robert Killebrew, a retired U.S. Army colonel and senior fellow at the Washington-based Center for a New American Security.
“This is a national security problem that does not yet have a name,” he wrote last fall in The National Strategy Forum Review.
The drug lords, he tells me, are seeking to “hollow out our institutions, just as they have in Mexico.”...

Chicago's murder epidemic: Crime rate proves city isn't doing enough

Chicago's murder epidemic: Crime rate proves city isn't doing enough
See the source image"Last month, President Trump visited my hometown of Chicago to speak at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference.
Sadly, the city’s top cop, Superintendent Eddie Johnson, skipped his event that day in protest.
But he, and Chicago’s mayor, Lori Lightfoot, should have attended to hear some hard truths.
Trump has been criticizing Chicago leadership since 2016 for allowing the violence to become one of the worst in the world, earning the title in 2015 as America’s mass-shooting capital, and he continued to highlight Chicago’s problems during the conference.

  • In response, Chicago’s mayor suggested Trump focus on his issues in DC, and the liberal press touted the decrease in violence in Chicago in some apparent attempt to prove how out of touch Trump is.
  • The decrease? Through the end of October, there have been 2,242 shooting victims and 424 murders in Chicago. Last year, we had 2,462 shooting victims and 478 murders over the same period.

In my reporting for Fox News, the people I have spoken with feel so under siege by the gun violence that this tiny drop doesn’t even register to them, and any talk from a politician who mentions the reduction in murders is a smack in their face because going on their front porch could be a death sentence..."

Jackson Kernion, a graduate student who has taught at least 11 philosophy courses at the university, posted that he "unironically embrace[s] the bashing of rural Americans."
"They, as a group, are bad people who have made bad life decisions," he said in the since-deleted tweet. "Some, I assume, are good people. But this nostalgia for some imagined pastoral way of life is stupid and we should shame people who aren't pro-city."

Facebook is removing from its platform any mention of the name of the potential whistleblower who ignited the current Democratic-led impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump.
Facebook is also cracking down on media outlets that post the whistleblower's name, saying to do so is a violation of the social media giant's community standards and policies, Breitbart reported.
The conservative news outlet said Facebook removed a post from Breitbart's page that pointed out other respected media publications have named the whistleblower.

"WHAT’S MOST NOTABLE IS THAT THAT THEY’VE BECOME A BASTION OF BAD IDEAS IS TAKEN FOR GRANTED: Erik Gilbert: How Ed Schools Became a Bastion of Bad Ideas.
Image result for Why Johnny Can't Read BookA few years ago, when I was on my university’s Graduate Council, a new course proposal came to us from our College of Education. The proposal referred to the different learning styles of students, something that struck me as odd — I remembered having heard years before that the learning-styles theory had been discredited....

...Evidence shows that virtually anyone can learn to read if they are taught to associate letters with particular sounds (phonics) and that trying to teach students to read using the whole language approach works poorly. Still, colleges of education continue to resist phonics. . . .

There are real costs to these inertial, anti-scientific ways. Researchers warn that trying to accommodate students’ beliefs about their own learning styles may actually make it harder for them to learn. The fact that fewer than 40 percent of American eighth graders are proficient readers is partially attributable to educators’ dogged opposition to phonics. . . .

Ed school graduates now occupy a growing role in academic administration, especially at lower-tier schools, and they are bringing an ed-school mentality with them.
In three words, ignorant, mediocre, authoritarianism.--Posted by

"Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass was an anti-Jewish pogrom in Nazi Germany on November 9th-10th, 1938.—it was much more than just a pogrom.
Kristallnacht was the day Hitler’s final solution “came out of the closet” with anti-Jewish riots in Germany, Austria, and the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia.
Kristallnacht is viewed by many historians as the beginning of the Jewish genocide of the Holocaust.
Image result for never forget holocaustIn a coordinated attack on Jewish people and their property, 99 Jews were murdered, and 25,000 to 30,000 were arrested and placed in concentration camps, 267 synagogues were destroyed, and thousands of homes and businesses were ransacked.
The attacks were carried out by Hitler Youth, the Gestapo, and the SS.
Kristallnacht also served as a pretext and a means for the wholesale confiscation of firearms from German Jews and was part of a broader Nazi policy of Antisemitism and persecution of the Jews. Kristallnacht was followed by further anti-Semitic economic, political abuses and horrible genocide..."

"Glitches": Indiana, Pennsylvania elections once again show risks of computer voting
"State and local elections in off-years provide pundits endless fodder for predictive analysis, even though flipping coins might be just as predictive.
One prediction that seems to come true every time, however, is that computer-screen voting will remind us of the wisdom of hand-marked paper ballots.
In Indiana, computer-screen voting machines switched voter choices — for the second straight election:

A vote switching problem that frustrated Greater Lafayette voters in November 2018 elections – and wound up part of a federal lawsuit filed in October – caused scattered problems again during Tuesday’s municipal Election Day..."

For Apple, It’s Time To Choose: America, Or China? | The Daily Caller:

Image result for flickr commons images Apple LogoIn other words, there is nowhere left to hide. As Kitchen put it, “the Chinese government will have lawful and technical access to all digital data within its borders and perhaps to large volumes of data beyond its borders.” If a company operates in China, they will be required to provide the country’s intelligence and law enforcement authorities all the access they want to that company’s data.
The implications for American companies are stark. Trade on the bottom line, or trade in on the American consumer?
Big Tech’s priors in this regard are not comforting. When presented with the choice to engage in an overt censorship regime that passed user data to the Chinese government, or to opt out of the Chinese market, Google chose the former.

Five Points business owner battling human feces problem | FOX31 Denver
DENVER -- A business owner in Denver's Five Points neighborhood is frustrated about finding human feces on his property.
Jawaid Bazyar says homeless people defecate on his property on an almost daily basis, and he's now refusing to clean it up.
Bazyar is the CEO of Forethought.net, an internet service provider.
..."The wall is a bathroom stall. They lean up against it and let it rip," he said to the FOX31 Problem Solvers.

  • "In downtown Denver, that's nonstop now, just piles of poop."
  • Syringes also litter the ground.
  • Employees have been assaulted, according to Bazyar.
  • "I've been chased with a 2-by-4, a knife, a pipe. A man bashed in my windshield with a rock," said Tamara Chapman, a financial controller with the company.
  • On Friday, Bazyar recorded an alleged drug deal happening outside his office.
  • "Everyday, two to three times a day, we're running people off," he said.
  • Bazyar has called police to complain.
  • "There have been periods where we literally call 10 times a day," he said.

However, he is now the one in trouble with the city.
...A spokesperson also tells FOX31 the city issued several warnings prior to handing Bazyar a citation.

How Fusion GPS Saved Planned Parenthood’s Bacon

How Fusion GPS Saved Planned Parenthood’s Bacon
"In a federal court in San Francisco, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America is currently suing the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) for illegally taping videos and racketeering, among other crimes.
Founded by David Daledien, the CMP nearly brought Planned Parenthood down when it released its series of undercover videos.
How Planned Parenthood avoided disaster is a story that deserves attention
...For immediate assistance Planned Parenthood turned to the well-connected fixers at -- where else? -- Fusion GPS.
...Armed with a ten-page report from Fusion, Richards went on the offensive.
Convincing people they did not see what they saw would not be easy, but the networks made the task possible by refusing to show the actual videos.
...The Times headlined its story, “Planned Parenthood Videos Were Altered, Analysis Finds.”
Deep in the copy, Fusion admitted they “found no evidence that CMP inserted dialogue not spoken by Planned Parenthood staff,” but the headline did the damage..."
