Democratic governor warns against 'echoing Socialist Party lines' and forcing Big Oil to drill

Democratic governor warns against 'echoing Socialist Party lines' and forcing Big Oil to drill
  • Gas prices in the U.S. keep going up and up, and Washington's Democrats have found a convenient scapegoat for the pain inflicted on American drivers — Big Oil.
"...But halfway around the U.S., the Democratic governor of an important oil-producing state has a different message: Oil companies might have good reason to be wary of amping up production...
  • First, oil companies need long-term price stability. If a company moves now, it could lose out if prices drop before new oil actually starts flowing. It “could be in six months, it could be in a year,” Polis says of the lag each company has to factor in...
  • A company like Exxon (XOM) surely remembers investing over the last decade and then posting a net annual loss of $22.4 billion for 2020, the largest in its history.
  • The oil giant survived but many smaller companies failed. In a recent oil bankruptcy report, the Texas law firm Haynes and Boone documented more than 600 industry bankruptcies from 2015 through 2021...Read all.

Audit finds Andrew Cuomo's Department of Health undercounted 4,100 covid nursing home deaths in New York - TheBlaze

"Our audit findings are extremely troubling," DiNapoli said. "The public was misled by those at the highest level of state government through distortion and suppression of the facts when New Yorkers deserved the truth."

The report found that the New York Department of Health failed to meet federal directives to inspect for infection control problems, reporting on only 20% of facilities between March and May 2020 – compared to over 90% for other states.

Energy reliability is everything - CFACT

Energy reliability is everything - CFACT

  • A recent Wall Street Journal article, The Power Struggle, raised the importance of grid reliability, but claimed that electric grid failures were caused by climate change.

The claim that climate risk is undermining grid reliability is an illusionThe WSJ article correctly diagnosed the danger of  blackouts, but incorrectly determined that the cause was climate change.

It is their proposed cure, i.e.,more wind, solar and batteries for storage, that is causing the problem.

As usual, some of their assumptions are wrong.

For example, the WSJ article said:

    1. “Wind and solar technologies have become increasingly cost-competitive and now rival coal, nuclear and, in some places, gas-fired plants.”...

Here are some facts:

  1. Wind and solar are not less costly than existing natural gas combined cycle (NGCC), coal-fired or nuclear power plants. They are also not less costly than new NGCC power plants. And they are, without question, far more costly when the cost of batteries, needed to backup up wind and solar, are included in the cost of generating and distributing electricity...Read all.

Global rise in COVID-19 cases is 'tip of the iceberg,' WHO warns | CBC News
  • Omicron variant, lifting of public health measures driving COVID-19 uptick worldwide
"Figures showing a global rise in COVID-19 cases could herald a much bigger problem as some countries also report a drop in testing rates, the World Health Organization said Wednesday, warning nations to remain vigilant against the virus.
...A combination of factors was causing the increases, including the highly transmissible Omicron variant and its BA.2 subvariant, as well as the lifting of public health and social measures, according to WHO.
..."We just have to avoid thinking that COVID is no longer there. And therefore maintain the strictly necessary measures, which are essentially the continuous monitoring and tracking of cases, and the maintenance of the obligation to wear a mask in closed or very crowded places."...Read all.

Yes, The Senate Should Investigate Jackson's Leniency To Sex Predators
"...But research released this week by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, calls into question Judge Jackson’s judicial philosophy concerning sex predators, particularly sentencing for child sex predators.
...her record also demonstrates an attempt to normalize a radical sexual ideology of adults being attracted to minors – categorizing it not as flatly criminal, but simply as misunderstood.
Judge Jackson’s Disturbing Pattern...at the U.S. Sentencing Commission, Judge Jackson advocated for eliminating the existing mandatory minimum sentences for child porn, suggesting that at least some people who possess child porn aren’t sexually motivated, but simply “in this for either the collection, or the people who are loners and find status in their participation in the community.”
While on the federal bench, Judge Jackson demonstrated a continuous string of departures from sentencing guidelines for sex predators...Read all!!

NY Governor Kathy Hochul Gets Booed at NY Rangers Game - Louder With Crowder

Kathy Hochul is a trailblazer. She became the first female lieutenant governor to be appointed governor after the real governor got yeeted for sexually harassing a bunch of other women. On Monday, Hochul shattered another glass ceiling, becoming the first female governor to get booed out of Madison Square Garden during a cheap publicity stunt before a NY Rangers Game. To "celebrate" Women's History Month, someone thought it would be a good idea for Hochul to drop the puck. I guess they thought the heart of New York City would be a safe space for her. Nope.

Looming food shortages is world's next 'slow-moving disaster'

Looming food shortages is world's next 'slow-moving disaster'
Glenn H. Reynolds
  • Record inflation is leading to food shortages on shelves across the US.
"...But a new problem is rearing its head, and government officials seem as likely to make it worse as to make it better.
That problem is shortages of food and fertilizer brought about by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions enacted by the West in response.
  • Ukraine is a major wheat producer, but war is likely to ensure a poor spring planting and harvest. Russia is also a major grower, but sanctions and war will prevent it from exporting to most of the world.
  • Russia is also a major manufacturer of fertilizer; in fact, it is the world’s largest. Second on the list is . . . China, a nation aligned with Russia and notably unfriendly to the United States and the West. (Canada is a distant third.)
That has people worried.
... Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack’s response to concerns about fertilizer and food shortages: “Maybe sacrifices are necessary.”
You can rest assured Vilsack won’t be the one making them...Read all!!
