Just before Christmas, our lawmakers –– both the House and the Senate –– passed a massive, 2000-plus page spending bill that nobody read, which is estimated to cost American taxpayers $1.1 trillion (some place it as high as $2 trillion) in order to keep our big government running for just the next year.
According to Reuters, "in a low-key Oval Office ceremony" (December 18, 2015), the bill was signed into law by President Obama, who gave "kudos" to both Republican Speaker Paul Ryan and former-Speaker John Boehner "for helping him get through the year without a government shutdown and for funding his legislative priorities," notedBreitbart News.
But let's go back a day earlier when POLITICO was amazed by the omnibus, which was reflected in their December 17, 2105 headline: "Congress' half-trillion-dollar spending binge: Budget austerity takes a back seat as the House passes nearly $700 billion in unpaid-for tax cuts."
POLITICO also noted the following:
...But on Capitol Hill this week, just hours before they jet away for the holidays, the GOP-led Congress is going on a $680 billion spending spree — none of which will be paid for by budget cuts or other tax offsets. And all of which will be added to the national debt, according to budget watchdogs.
