Americans have constitutional right to carry guns in public for self-defense, appeals court rules - Washington Times
Americans have constitutional right to carry guns in public for self-defense, appeals court rules - Washington Times:
Americans have a constitutional right to openly carry firearms, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday, delivering a major victory to gun rights supporters.
While courts previously have recognized the right to own firearms to protect the home, the decision by the three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit extends that into the public sphere, calling it a “core Second Amendment right.”
In a 2-1 ruling, the panel said Hawaii’s law severely restricting guns outside homes or businesses tramples on that right.

OPINION: Universities fuel the growth of Democratic Socialism
OPINION: Universities fuel the growth of Democratic Socialism
- The Democratic Socialists of America has grown rapidly of late, recently surpassing 40,000 members, and our universities are largely responsible for its newfound appeal to young people.
- In myriad, often subtle ways, leftist professors exploit their positions of authority to "develop" new socialist acolytes by presenting students with a narrow framework of "acceptable" ideas that disguises socialism as virtuous.
With the left's full embrace of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is in the mainstream media’s spotlight.
With more than 40,000 card carrying members, DSA is a growing leftist force in not only our political system, but in our systems of higher education.
"The far left is a much greater threat to our nation than any neo-Nazi group will ever be, and our universities are the gateways to the left." Tweet This
So why is the left, especially in our universities, embracing an ideology that has resulted in the deaths of over a hundred million people? Here are three reasons why socialism is making a comeback on college campuses:
1. It is intellectually appealing
The intellectual appeal of socialism—and postmodern ideology in general—is incredibly strong. There is also no better place to foster that appeal than a university, and professors are the perfect conduits for postmodern thought..."

"California’s grid operator is asking customers to limit electricity use during peak hours to help keep power flowing as a “heat dome” settles over the southwestern U.S.
But they were warned of this months ago.
The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) warned in May that California faced “significant risk of encountering operating conditions that could result in operating reserve shortfalls.”
Expected power demand is expected to outstrip California’s available generating capacity by about 5,000 megawatts on Tuesday, according to the California Independent System Operator (CAISO).

Source: California Independent System Operator
Why the lack of energy supplies?
CAISO expects high demand for air conditioning during the heat wave to outstrip supply owing to “reduced electricity imports, tight natural gas supplies” and high wildfire risk.
CAISO expects high demand for air conditioning during the heat wave to outstrip supply owing to “reduced electricity imports, tight natural gas supplies” and high wildfire risk.
The grid operator issued a flex alert to customers on Monday and began mobilizing all available generating capacity.
But that’s not enough, and CAISO is asking residents and businesses to cut their power usage to prevent “rotating power outages.”
This is exactly what NERC warned about, based on CAISO’s own assessment earlier this year....
122°F in Palm Springs, California on Tuesday -- location to watch for the most extreme temperatures across the Southwest U.S. beneath the #heatdome
Highs across the region are 10°-15°F above normal for mid-July and will set or tie daily record highs -- including Phoenix at 116°F

How Obama presidency was 8-year hacking nightmare
How Obama presidency was 8-year hacking nightmare:
"Let’s review what received little media attention in the U.S. at the time or since.
When the CIA director and his boss, the director of National Intelligence, along with 21,000 FBI agents are hacked, one of them by a 15-year-old boy, it makes you wonder how much credibility the intelligence community has in their certainty about Russia leaking hacked documents from Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee.
As President Trump tweeted: “Julian Assange said ‘a 14 year old could have hacked Podesta’ – why was DNC so careless?”

"Let’s review what received little media attention in the U.S. at the time or since.
- In September 2016, U.S. authorities arrested two North Carolina members of the “Crackas With Attitude” group involved in hacking CIA Director Brennan’s personal email account and leaking sensitive files including a top-secret application for a security clearance, as well as other senior officials at the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI. The hackers leaked the personal details of 31,000 government agents belonging to nearly 20,000 FBI agents; 9,000 Department of Homeland Security officers and some Department of Justice staffers. The attacks took place in October 2015...
- In January 2016, a hackers associated with the same group accessed personal email and phone accounts belonging to the director of National Intelligence, James Clapper. The group also broke into the AOL email of the FBI Deputy Director Mark Giuliano. They also broke into Clapper’s and his wife’s emails, home phone and internet connection. While in control of Clapper’s FIOS connection, they said they redirected all calls to his number to the Free the Palestine movement. How did the CIA director, the director of National Intelligence, officials of DHS and the 31,000 FBI agents get hacked?
- It gets worse. For CIA Director Brennan, who recently called President Trump’s meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin “treasonous,” it was the second time his personal email account was hacked. The first time was by a 15-year-old British hacker, a story that received virtually no media coverage in the U.S...

- Office of Personnel Management Director Katherine Archuleta resigned in July 2015, a day after revealing the largest government data breach in American history. She got the job directing all human resources management for the federal government – from recruitment, hiring, development and support – after serving in Obama’s re-election campaign in 2008. Jeff Sessions repeats 'Lock her up' chant as he accuses colleges of creating snowflakes - Washington Times:
Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday told a group of conservative high school students that colleges have created a generation of “sanctimonious, sensitive, supercilious snowflakes.”
He also chuckled at a chant of “Lock her up” during the speech, referencing a rallying cry used by then-candidate Donald Trump against his 2016 presidential election opponent, Hillary Clinton.
Mr. Trump used the “Lock her up” catchphrase as part of his claim that Mrs. Clinton should be jailed for her use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.

Is Society Destroying the Kind of Women Men Want? | Intellectual Takeout:
"...The Telegraph describes a popular Reddit thread which asks, “What is something women think makes them more attractive to men while men think it makes them less attractive?” and then goes on to list some of the more surprising responses:
“Upper-lip piercings are deemed ‘trashy’.
Tracksuits with the word ‘juicy’ emblazoned on the posterior are a no-no, as are hoop earrings, 'old lady perfume', ballerina shoes, long nails or bold lip colours (unless, you are one of those women who can 'rock it')...
...the responses the men gave made me stop and think.
If their answers could be boiled down to a few words, they would likely say that they are uninterested in women who act as self-absorbed attention seekers.
Unfortunately, many in today’s society – both men and women – have been trained to be just that.
Parents have been told to center life around their child in order to promote their self-esteem.
Students increasingly suffer from “emotional dependency,” a condition in which it’s difficult to function without continual affirmation and praise.
Society has normalized the Culture of Narcissism, which leads toward “dependence on the vicarious warmth provided by others, … calculating seductiveness, … and deteriorating relations between men and women.”...

Freedom and Independence
By Tammy Derouin
We are blessed to live in a country
where our God-given rights are acknowledge and protected by the U.S.
Constitution. The Constitution is a liberating document because it
restricts and limits the power of the government. The government is
empowered by the people and is not supposed to make laws which
infringe upon or restrict our rights. The Constitution establishes
that we are a land of laws not men. The founding fathers also made
clear that we are a Republic not a true democracy.
Sadly, many do not understand how our
system of government works. They call for radical changes which
would fundamentally change our country from its original intent of
freedom and independence to enslavement and dependency. Separation of
powers and the checks and balance they are supposed to provide is
vital so that one branch doesn't become too powerful. The Electoral
College is another good example. It is vital to our Republic but
people need to understand how and why it works. Do those who call
for such changes understand that if their attempts are successful, it
would turn back the hands of time? We the people need to understand
when destructive forces are attempting to destroy us. Once freedom
is gone, there's a good chance it is gone forever.

- Federal employees have the highest job security of any sector of the economy.
- But two bills moving through Congress now would make it much easier for federal managers to take action when an employee is simply not getting the job done.
- When Trump issued three executive orders that made it easier to fire poorly performing government employees, a majority of public-sector workers were on board.

Here’s what U.S. voters really think of illegals voting
Here’s what U.S. voters really think of illegals voting:
U.S. voters, by a 2-1 margin, are opposed to allowing illegal aliens to vote in elections, according to a new poll.
Rasmussen Reports asked, “Should illegal immigrants be allowed to vote if they can prove that they live in this country and pay taxes.”
The question went to 1,000 likely voters between July 19 and 22.
“San Francisco is allowing non-citizen parents and guardians of children, including illegal immigrants, to vote in the upcoming school board elections,” the report said.
But the poll found that “doesn’t fly for most voters nationwide,” even if “Democrats are receptive to it.”

Five myths of the Russian Revolution.
Mindful of Voltaire’s dictum (“To hold a pen is to be at war”), we take up the pen against five enduring myths about the Russian Revolution and the advent of socialism.
The five myths are long-standing pillars of falsehood — used to curtail liberty, justify past atrocities, and (in the name of “progress”) lead free people into servitude.
Five myths of the Russian Revolution.
Mindful of Voltaire’s dictum (“To hold a pen is to be at war”), we take up the pen against five enduring myths about the Russian Revolution and the advent of socialism.
Calling themselves “progressives,” many people today readily accept most or all of these myths as the truth.
Filled with socialist yearnings, they have become a new force to be reckoned with in American politics.- Myth #1 — The false story of a heroic beginning to socialism — as a popular uprising by an oppressed people against social injustice and the cruelties under the Tsar.
In truth, the Russian revolution did not really begin until after the military coup that brought the Bolsheviks to power on Nov. 7, 1917.
The coup was an almost bloodless event — “as easy as picking up a feather,” Lenin admitted.
...It was a small group of disaffected soldiers — not alienated workers — who stormed the Winter Palace in Petersburg, arrested members of a feeble Provisional Government, and catapulted Lenin — who enjoyed no widespread popular support — into power.
The historian Bertram Wolfe quipped:
What came next was the real revolution: the elimination of private property, the abolition of all existing laws, the end of individual rights, the rapid descent of civil society into chaos, and the concentration of all authority and decision-making power in the hands of the state..."Lenin seized power not in a land “ripe for socialism,” but in a land ripe for seizing power.

"Too many "scientists" have too much grant money and too much computer time on their hands, thanks to the tens of billions of dollars in grant money ($32.5 billion from 1989 to 2015, according to the Science and Public Policy Institute) that the federal government has been dispensing for "climate change research."
Put together a proposal to find a new scary correlation, and odds are you'll be bringing in the federal cash, to the delight of your university (that gets to appropriate a third or so of the grant for "overhead").
That's why we have hundreds and hundreds of bad things that global warming (or climate change) supposedly will cause.

The San Francisco Chronicle has the latest claim, one that bears the imprimatur of Stanford University.
Read on.More people are likely to take their own lives as the planet warms, say researchers at Stanford University and UC Berkeley in a study published Monday that suggests yet another worrisome impact of climate change. The multidisciplinary research team looked at nearly 1 million suicides in North America and found that hotter temperatures correlate with higher suicide rates...
And a map, with darker shades indicating a higher suicide rate, also offers no clustering around the equator.
Given the awkward “pause” in global warming that has been ongoing for the last two decades, and the uncertainty of correlation as causation claims, this sounds like a pretty far-fetched cause for worry.

"Boston Dynamics, maker of uncannily agile robots, is poised to bring its first commercial product to market -- a small, dog-like robot called the SpotMini.
From a report:
The launch was announced in May, and founder Marc Raibert recently said that by July of next year, Boston Dynamics will be producing the SpotMini at the rate of around 1,000 units per year. The broader goal, as reported by Inverse, is to create a flexible platform for a variety of applications. According to Raibert, SpotMini is currently being tested for use in construction, delivery, security, and home assistance applications. The SpotMini moves with the same weirdly smooth confidence as previous experimental Boston Dynamics robots with names like Cheetah, BigDog, and Spot."
