• So why did we treat face masks differently?

For some reason, we’ve been treating this one particular matter of public health differently.
We don’t see op-eds that ask whether people really need to keep 6 feet away from each other on the street, as opposed to 3 feet, or that cast doubt on whether it’s such a good idea to promote bouts of handwashing that are 20 seconds long.
...In recent weeks, experts have counseled caution—or rejected the use of masks by the general public outright—as they pleaded for better, more decisive evidence.
Why?
...There are no large-scale clinical trials proving that personal use of masks can prevent pandemic spread; and the ones that look at masks and influenza have produced equivocal results.
After all, there aren’t any clinical trials proving that a 6-foot social distance prevents infection, as far as we know. (The World Health Organization only recommends a 3-foot separation.)..."

This was after Dr. Scott Jensen, a Minnesota physician and Republican state senator, told a local station he received a 7-page document coaching him to fill out death certificates with a COVID-19 diagnosis without a lab test to confirm the patient actually had the virus.

Dr. Jensen also disclosed that hospitals are paid more if they list patients with a COVID-19 diagnosis.
And hospitals get paid THREE TIMES AS MUCH if the patient then goes on a ventilator...
...And as you can see, from the state charts, in many cases the people who died were extremely old – in their 90s or even 100s – and there is no information about whether they had preexisting conditions or even if they were hospitalized.
This is very shady.

A co-worker today brought this to my attention.
He was extremely excited about getting a $25,000 bonus.
Hearing the name Sherrod Brown(D), I was skeptical.
Sure enough, it looks to me like a giveaway to AFSCME. 

At best, it offers funds to employers. 

Mine might technically qualify by having food contracts with schools, although the wording implies a government gravy-train about to leave the station.

My first reaction was, "Where is all this money going to come from?" 

After reading the "full text of the proposal" linked in the article, that's still my first question.
Hypocrite that I am, I would not refuse a wad of cash dropped in my lap. 

But it reminds me of this quote: “The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money.” – Alexis de Tocqueville.
