"CLEVELAND (AP) — Chanting "We are people, not your mascots," several dozen protesters gathered outside the Indians' home opener urging the team to change its nickname and abolish the Chief Wahoo logo.
The demonstration has taken place each year on opening day for several decades, gaining more attention because of similar protests in Washington against the Redskins.

Michigan marijuana legalization group proposing 10% tax with revenue for roads, schools and cities | MLive.com:
"LANSING, MI -- An activist-led group seeking to put a marijuana legalization proposal on Michigan's 2016 ballot wants to tax retail sales at 10 percent and allow residents to grow up to 12 plants at home.
The Michigan Comprehensive Cannabis Law Reform Committee -- one of three unaffiliated groups considering a possible petition drive -- on Friday released draft language of its ballot proposal.
....In addition to the state sales tax, retail marijuana sales would be subject to a 10 percent excise tax, with 40 percent of revenue going to the Michigan Department of Transportation, 40 percent to School Aid Fund and 20 percent to the local government."

"The screening on the Ann Arbor campus made national headlines this week when it was canceled in the wake of a letter from students who complained “American Sniper” is anti-Muslim; the alternate movie would be “Paddington.”

But shortly after head football coach Jim Harbaugh declared that he would show the movie to his team, the university walked back the decision to cancel the screening."

New business growth in Michigan remains weak

New business growth in Michigan remains weak | MLive.com
For the first time in decades, U.S. businesses are closing at a faster pace than new ones are being started.
..Some say the trend is deeply disturbing because new businesses provide so much innovation and economic vitality.
"Let's get one thing clear: this economy is never truly coming back unless we reverse the birth and death trends of American businesses," Gallup CEO Jim Clifton recently wrote.
Thomas Edsall, a contributing columnist for the New York Times, cited increasing government regulation of small businesses, corporate consolidations, more occupational licensing requirements and too few skilled immigrants as among the reasons why start-ups are lagging.
The trend in Michigan is similar, with one huge caveat...

Pastor Who Asked ‘Gay’ Bakery for a Christian Cake Being Charged With a Crime

Pastor Who Asked ‘Gay’ Bakery for a Christian Cake Being Charged With a Crime | John Hawkins' Right Wing News
"The cake controversies are continuing but this time in reverse as a Christian pastor who asked a “gay” bakery to bake a cake with a Christian message on it was refused service.
But instead of the bakery being charged, it seems that it is the pastor who faces threatened criminal action.
Last week we discussed the case of Arizona-based pastor Joshua Feuerstein who runs a popular Youtube channel.
Feuerstein warned that Christians are coming under increasing attack by the state and that they should be very careful in this heightened anti-Christian climate.
Feuerstein also made a video where he called Sharon Haller, owner of Cut the Cake in Longwood, Fla. and asked her to make a cake that said “We Don’T Support Gay Marriage” on it.
She refused and Feuerstein posted the video of her refusal on his Youtube channel.
Haller then demanded that Feuerstein take the video down and he did as asked.
But then she reposted the video herself and used it to attack Feuerstein.
Then the shop owner called the FBI to demand that they charge Feuerstein with a hate crime..."

Calif. water districts, facing catastrophe, defy federal order to release water for fish

Calif. water districts, facing catastrophe, defy federal order to release water for fish - Liberty Unyielding
The California water battles are heating up.
...On Monday, two small rural water districts in Central California retained legal counsel and told the federal Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) that they wouldn’t release on schedule a 15,000 acre-foot “pulse” of water from their severely depleted reservoir.
The “pulse” release, which raises the level and current of the Stanislaus River, is intended to assist a specific fish in its annual migration.
The problem the water districts face has two main dimensions.
One is physical: if they release the water now, without assurances as to “whose” water they are releasing, there is a stark and very real likelihood that by 30 September 2015, their reservoir will be drained to below the level of the outflow openings – with no guarantee of replenishment from another source.
That would leave all their customers without water..."

They can't win unless they lie----News media's sloppy week

News media's sloppy week: Column:

The Times had editorialized that the NRA was a bunch of hypocrites because although attendees with gun permits were allowed to carry guns on the convention floor, those guns were actually neutered by having the firing pins removed:
"Seventy-thousand people are expected to attend the National Rifle Association's convention opening (last Friday) in Tennessee, and not one of them will be allowed to come armed with guns that can actually shoot.
After all the NRA propaganda about how 'good guys with guns' are needed to be on guard across American life, from elementary schools to workplaces, the weekend's gathering of disarmed conventioneers seems the ultimate in hypocrisy."
A damning assertion of hypocrisy — except that it wasn't even close to true.
The only guns with firing pins removed were the display guns on the convention floor. In fact, several gun bloggers tweeted a photo of themselves carrying fully functional firearmsfrom the press room, forcing The Times into an embarrassing — though still incomplete — correction. It was especially embarrassing because a simple check of the NRA website or The Tennessean would have revealed the truth.
But The Times' editors saw a chance to score a cheap shot and got carried away in their excitement. (MSNBC got burned, too.)
They were not alone in their humiliation last week...

"The exact crime the beheading victim is accused of committing is not known, but images of his violent death were uploaded to Twitter saying he was a ‘sorcerer’. The first photo shows the blindfolded and bound man wearing a brown jumpsuit as a bearded terrorist lifts an 18-inch long kukri machete high into the air ready to behead the defenseless victim.

It is the exactly the same position British and American hostages are placed in after being savagely beheaded by ISIS’ British executioner in chief Mohammed Emwazi, also known as Jihadi John."

This is what democrats vote for------DEMOCRATS WANT TO LEGALIZE 'POST BIRTH ABORTION' UP TO AGE 4

DEMOCRATS WANT TO LEGALIZE 'POST BIRTH ABORTION' UP TO AGE 4
...Click  here for the link to the Snopes article, which is poorly researched on the Mikkelsons' part, and, like most Snopes articles dealing with politics is heavily weighted to the left.
If the crack team at Snopes had just simply used a search engine, they would have found that a left-leaning website, Slate.com had already tackled the subject of post-birth abortions.
In fact, the professors in question wrote an academic journal in the Journal of Medical Ethics. Their thesis came down to this one sentence: "
“There is nothing magical about passing through the birth canal that transforms it from a fetus into a person.”
Read that again.
And again.
...The democrats' stand is much more ominous. They want you and I to accept the notion that a child is not a person until age 5.
For full citation, click here.

Now you've got fully sourced proof of liberal academics supporting the outright murder of children.
If that's not enough to give you the chills, then consider this.
In testimony before Congressional committee, Planned Parenthood employee Alisa LaPolt Snow was asked point blank:
“If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”
She replied: “We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician.”
Jaws in the committee room dropped. Asked again, she repeated her answer.
So that Snopes doesn't try to deem this false,  here is the full story from The Washington Post. (Not exactly a bastion of conservatism)...

10 Incredible Photographs That Won The Pulitzer Prize

10 Incredible Photographs That Won The Pulitzer Prize - Listverse:
Screaming Girl
Screaming Girl
Photo credit: Massoud Hossaini via The Pulitzer Prizes
Afghanistan-born photographer Massoud Hossaini won the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography. His photograph was that of 12-year-old Afghan girl Tarana Akbari, who was screaming just after a suicide explosion which killed more than 70 people, including seven members of her family. Her family along with several others had gone to Kabul to observe the Ashura festival, one of the holiest days observed by Shia Muslims. The festival is meant to commemorate the A.D. 680 murder of Imam Ali, a grandson of the prophet Muhammad.
The worshippers had crowded at the Abul Fazl shrine to celebrate when a lone suicide bomber detonated explosives in his backpack. Massoud was at the scene when the bomb went off and had even been injured in the explosion, which was even condemned by the Taliban. Massoud had taken photographs at the yearly Ashura festival for 10 years and had not been expecting anything unusual. What makes Massoud’s photograph stand out is that, unlike other photographs that were usually taken well after the main event had occurred, this one was taken immediately after; Massoud was there, after all.

"The University of Michigan kowtowed with a lily-livered response to the Muslim student’s right to freely express themselves by cancelling the showing of the movie, which has been a box office smash hit across the country and lauded by millions of viewers.

In cancelling the movie with their politically correct appeasement, the University trampled on the rights of a large number of students on the other side of the issue who were looking forward to the seeing the movie at the school.

Then a real man appeared in the form of the newly hired Michigan football coach, Jim Harbaugh, who showed the University of Michigan what it means to ‘have a pair.’"

Get Ready for $11 Billion in 'Net Neutrality' Taxes

Get Ready for $11 Billion in 'Net Neutrality' Taxes - Investors.com
Promises: Not long after FCC chairman Tom Wheeler swore that the FCC takeover of the Internet wouldn't result in new taxes or fees, it appears likely that new taxes will show up on Internet bills in the near future.
In a speech a few weeks before the FCC voted to approve its "net neutrality" rules, Chairman Tom Wheeler promised there would be "no tariffs, no new taxes" as a result.
Later that month, FCC spokeswoman Kim Hart promised that the new regulatory scheme "does not raise taxes or fees. Period."
If that sounds suspiciously like Obama's promise that under ObamaCare you would be able to "keep your plan. Period," there's a good reason.
In mid-March, Wheeler told a House panel that he couldn't, in fact, rule out a new Internet fee to help pay for the government's "Universal Service Fund" (USF).
By shoving the Internet into the agency's Title II regulatory scheme — which was set up 80 years ago to regulate the telephone monopoly — Wheeler made it possible to do so...

Army Forced to Pay Damages for Not Allowing Transwoman to Use Women’s Bathroom

Army Forced to Pay Damages for Not Allowing Transwoman to Use Women’s Bathroom | Washington Free Beacon:
The Army is being forced to pay a transwoman after she complained that a private, “gender-neutral” bathroom was not enough.
An Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruling last week said the Army discriminated against Tamara Lusardi, a military veteran and civilian software specialist who began transitioning from male to female in 2010, by not letting Lusardi use the ladies bathroom.
The Washington Post reports:
Lusardi, who served in the Army from 1986 to 1993, said the Army required her to use a single-person, gender-neutral restroom out of concerns that other employees might feel “uncomfortable” sharing a restroom with her.
She also alleged that management and co-workers called her “sir” and “it” after she began dressing as a woman and legally changed her name, driver’s license and security clearance.
The Army argued that it provided legitimate and non-discriminatory reasons for requiring the employee to use the single-user restroom and that management was supportive of her transition. But the commission determined that federal law prohibits the department’s actions.
According to the report, the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) also ruled in favor of Lusardi last year, and “ordered the Army to provide sensitivity training” and monetary damages...
