Muskegon-area officials float idea for regional water authority MLive.com
"Werschem and Norton Shores Mayor Gary Nelund said they had proposed to Muskegon Heights officials that they join the authority and have the authority purchase and operate the Muskegon Heights water plant, but Paige said the city wasn’t comfortable with the proposal."
Anything to get away from the race-protected thugs of Muskegon Heights.

Feed Your Family on $10 Billion a Day
iowahawk: Feed Your Family on $10 Billion a Day
"Feed Your Family on $10 Billion a Day
Seems like these days I hear a lot of whiney whiners whining about 'out of control government spending' and 'insane deficits' and such, trying to make hay out of a bunch of pointy-head boring finance hooey.
Sure, $3.7 trillion of spending sounds like a big number.
'Oh, boo-hoo, how are we going to get $3.7 trillion dollars?
We're broke, boo-hoo-hoo,' whine the whiners.
What these skinflint crybabies fail to realize is that $3.7 trillion is for an entire year - which translates into only a measly $10 billion per day!
Mister, I call that a bargain."

“The best economic policy is one that produces more college graduates…:
"The government decides to try to increase the middle class by subsidizing things that middle class people have:
If middle-class people go to college and own homes, then surely if more people go to college and own homes, we’ll have more middle-class people.
But homeownership and college aren’t causes of middle-class status, they’re markers for possessing the kinds of traits — self-discipline, the ability to defer gratification, etc. — that let you enter, and stay, in the middle class.
Subsidizing the markers doesn’t produce the traits; if anything, it undermines them."

Taxpayers Have Rights, Too
Taxpayers Have Rights, Too Neal McCluskey Cato Institute: Commentary
"Watching the coverage of the big Wisconsin standoff, you could easily get the impression that it's all about the trampling of workers' rights.
And individuals do, indeed, have the right to band together in pursuit of better wages and conditions.
The problem is, the taxpayers who pay those wages also have rights, and those are the ones currently being trampled. Which highlights the real problem: When government does things, someone's rights are always crushed."

"On Mar. 12, the European Union (EU) reached an agreement to create a permanent €440 billion bailout fund to support troubled sovereigns like Portugal, Ireland, Greece, and Spain (PIGS).
Despite a lot of talk of making the “senior bondholders” pay part of the loss in government bonds from the PIGS, ultimately this was not included in the agreement."

PUBLIC EMPLOYEES IN WISCONSIN DON’T SEE THE IRONY

“The protests have been on behalf of well-paid people with excellent jobs — better jobs than the average Wisconsinite’s.
And the protesters got massive extra doses of freedom to express themselves in the state capitol for over a month, without any threats of violence or even arrest for the crimes they committed in full view of the police.
I mean, I know they have their complaints, but they are not even the bottom sector of the Wisconsin economy.
If there were to be a class struggle here, they would be taken aback to find themselves in the role they actually have in this economy: the oppressors!”
Plus, from the comments: “The only class struggle in WI is the one between those with class and those without it.”"

Do We Still Need Unions?
No.
“The primary purpose of public unions today, as ugly as it sounds, is to work against the financial interests of taxpayers: the more public employees are paid in wages and uncapped benefits, the less taxpayers keep of the money they earn.
It’s time to call an end to the privileged class.
And the White House makes a mistake if it thinks it can grow a manufactured and uncivil unrest into a popular movement.”
It’s a big leap from We’ve got to protect our phoney-baloney jobs to you’ve got to protect our phoney-baloney jobs."

Sowell: Blacks and Republicans
Sowell: Blacks and Republicans Commentary
"Yet another area in which Democrats are boxed in politically is their making job protection for members of teachers' unions more important than improving education for students in the public schools.
No one loses more from this policy than blacks, for many of whom education is their only chance for economic advancement.
But none of this matters so long as Republicans who want the black vote think they have to devise earmarked benefits for blacks, instead of explaining how Republicans' general principles, applied to all Americans, can do more for blacks than the Democrats' welfare state approach."
As long as GOPers refuse to articulate their message if they even have a message), they will face Tea Party challengers in every primary.

"Three questions for you.
2. Do you think the Wisconsin protests over GOP Governor Scott Walker’s move to strip public sector employees of collective bargaining were peaceful?
3. Do you scoff at the right wing notion that mainstream media like the New York Times, the TV networks and NPR have a liberal media bias against the conservatives?
If you answered ‘yes’ to all three of those questions, then let me ask you one more …

UNION THUGS DESTROY RECALL PETITIONS
THUGS DESTROY RECALL PETITIONS Newsradio 620
Charlie Sykes:
"Upon arrival, members of the recall committee were encircled by union protesters carrying signs and a leader with a mega phone who began chanting and ranting loudly.
They packed in tightly around the petition collection table so as to prevent those attempting to sign from doing so.
At one point, a pro union protester, pretending to be interested in signing the petition, wrote profanity across a partially collected petition form, than began ripping up the completed petitions that were in close proximity.
The policemen who were there, and who were standing in close proximity to these events as they unfolded, did nothing to assist those collecting the petitions as they were being destroyed, despite such an action being a Felony under Wisconsin law.
Police also did nothing to clear the walk way for citizens that wanted to sign the petitions.
Recall Committee members received many phone calls the following day from Merill area citizens who stated that they showed up to sign the petition, but were too afraid to get out of their vehicles and approach the recall table."
