This is great!-----Bathrobe-wearing watchdog turns tables on Detroit squatter

Bathrobe-wearing watchdog turns tables on Detroit squatter « Watchdog.org:
"WatchdogWire.com
Charlie LeDuff, a Fox 2 reporter known for his offbeat exposés, went mano a mano with a Wayne County squatter.
Lynn Arthur Williams Jr., on probation for a felonious assault with a deadly weapon, had taken up residence in a single-family Detroit home bought by Sarah Hamilton-Gilmer.
Hamilton-Gilmer planned on a third-party short sale with the house, but Williams wouldn’t budge. Police were called; the squatter accused the homeowner of attacking Williams with a car; the homeowner denied the accusation but still went to jail.
As for Williams?
The squatter remained comfortably ensconced in Hamilton-Gilmer’s abode.
End of story?
Not by a long shot.

Watch what happens when LeDuff turns the tables on Williams."

Feds dig up $2 million to support networking needs of amateur fossil fans

Feds dig up $2 million to support networking needs of amateur fossil fans « Watchdog.org: "TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Fossil lovers now have one more way to link up and talk about dinosaurs thanks to a mammoth-sized federal grant.
Critics call it more buried treasure.
The University of Florida broke ground earlier this year on a taxpayer-supported initiative purporting to connect amateur fossil enthusiasts across the country with each other and professional aficionados through a new online communication network.
The cost: $2 million.
The plan is a mouthful, called Fostering Opportunities for Synergistic STEM in Informal Learners, or FOSSIL, (STEM is an acronym for Science Technology Engineering and Math).
Simply put, it consists of a user-friendly website, social media outreach and event get-togethers.
The website — the networking hub — hosts mainly contact lists, event information and a newsletter."

Feds contact school as student-led boycott of Michelle O lunches begins today

Feds contact school as student-led boycott of Michelle O lunches begins today - EAGnews.org: "SCHOFIELD, Wis. – Students at Wisconsin’s D.C. Everest High School are sending a message to federal officials today by boycotting one-size-fits-all school lunches regulations they believe are too restrictive.
Senior Meghan Hellrood organized the boycott to draw attention to new regulations implemented through the Healthy and Hunger Free Kids Act, the pet project of First Lady Michelle Obama that aims to fight childhood obesity through government bureaucracy.
The federal edicts impose strict limitations on calories, fat, salt, portion sizes and other aspects of food sold at schools participating in the National School Lunch Program that have convinced more than a million students to stop buying lunch at school, devastating school lunch revenues.
The restrictions, which have been phased in since 2012, also resulted in over a $1 billion in food waste in schools across the country due to a requirement that students take a fruit or vegetable, whether they want it or not.
D.C. Everest Principal Tom Johansen told WSAU.com he certainly understands why students there are revolting against the new rules, and the boycott has already prompted federal officials to take action."

......some are more equal than others.......Black males murder five year old white girl in Milwaukee. No national outrage

Black males murder five year old white girl in Milwaukee. No national outrage - Wounded American Warrior:
"Two black males in Milwaukee walked up to the home of a white family, in a majority black neighborhood, and unleashed a hail of gunfire.
A five year old white girl was murdered while sitting on her grandfather’s lap.
Milwaukee police say there is no question the shooters were deliberating trying to kill people inside the house.
At least a dozen bullets were fired directly into the house.
There may have been a third person driving a getaway car.
The house was located in a census tract that is 77% black and 14% white.
The Milwaukee Sentinel and Milwaukee channel 6 have actually been trying to downplay the murder. They are falsly reporting that it was “a stray bullet.”
That directly contradicts all the evidence found by police.
If the races were reversed, this would be the biggest news story in the entire western world right now. Imagine for one second that two white males walked up to a black occupied home, in a mostly white neighborhood, and opened fire.
Imagine a five year old black girl was murdered while sitting on her grandfather’s lap.
There would weeks of national coverage.
There would be documentaries.
The story would be revisited by the national media over and over for the next ten years."

Net Neutrality—and Obama's Scheme for the Internet—Are Lousy Ideas

Net Neutrality—and Obama's Scheme for the Internet—Are Lousy Ideas - Reason.com:
"The nightmare outcome?
The Internet becomes more expensive and less convenient for consumers, and it becomes harder for small content producers to compete.
That's what might conceivably happen.
Here's what actually is happening, right now:
We know, indisputably, thanks to the heroic disclosures by Edward Snowden and the tireless work of journalists like Laura Poitras and Glenn Greenwald, that the federal government is attempting to use the Internet to build a global Panopticon, capable of accessing everyone's personal information at any time for any reason or no reason.
We also know that one way the government is trying to accomplish this is by securing the cooperation of private companies.
You can attempt to thwart surveillance by using encryption—but encryption only protects data in transit.
Once it's received and decrypted, it's an open book.
If the government can compromise private data custodians, encryption loses a lot of its efficacy.
This is exactly what happened to Google, which had its internal traffic bugged by the NSA."

Suburban DC school district takes Christmas off calendar after Muslims complain

Suburban DC school district takes Christmas off calendar after Muslims complain - EAGnews.org: "ROCKVILLE, Md. – Christmas is now just December 25th in the Montgomery County school district.
The suburban DC district stripped Christmas and Jewish holy holidays from its official calendar after Muslim parents complained.
But that’s not good enough as they say the move does “nothing to gain parity and a day off for the Muslim holiday of Eid,” according to WTOP.
“Equality is really what we’re looking for,” Saqib Ali, co-chair of Equality for Eid, says.
“Simply saying we’re not going to call this Christmas, and we’re not going to call this Yom Kippur, and still closing the schools, that’s not equality.”
CAIR isn’t happy either.
“What’s really concerning to us is that similar conditions weren’t placed on any other faith community,” a representative of the group, Zainab Chaudry, says, the station reports."

Government Report Finds Rampant Nepotism At The DOJ

Government Report Finds Rampant Nepotism At The DOJ | The Daily Caller:
"A new government investigation has uncovered rampant nepotism at a Justice Department agency, where senior officials routinely gave paid federal jobs to their children stretching back at least to 2005.
The investigation focused on three senior officials at the Executive Office for Immigration Review, a DOJ agency whose mission is to “to adjudicate immigration cases by fairly, expeditiously, and uniformly interpreting and administering the Nation’s immigration laws.
Under delegated authority from the Attorney General, EOIR conducts immigration court proceedings, appellate reviews, and administrative hearings.”
The report not only implicated all three in hiring relatives for paid student positions, but found that “the practice of hiring relatives of employees into step positions in EOIR was widespread over a period of years.
… Multiple EOIR officials told the OIG that hiring relatives for paid student positions was a standard practice or commonplace.”"

LIBERTY REVIEW:

"Our first line of defense is information.  The American people were betrayed.  The puppet press tampered with the message and refused to deliver the truth.  There is no doubt in my mind that this administration used some very convincing, strong armed tactics to turn our free press into the dancing marionettes of the Obama administration. "

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker wants to drug test welfare recipients

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker wants to drug test welfare recipients - The Washington Post:
"Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has said he wants recipients of food stamps and unemployment benefits to undergo drug tests, a move that could face possible legal trouble.
The state is already one of five that require public assistance applicants who are convicted of drug felony charges to be tested for drugs, along with Maine, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Virginia, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Should Walker propose a broader measure that involves testing benefits applicants either randomly or without suspicion that they have used drugs, it could be found unconstitutional because of  a 2003 Michigan Court of Appeals case, the NCSL said.
In 2010, at least 12 states tried passing legislation that would have enacted “suspicionless” drug testing for public assistance recipients, but none passed."

Note almost all are coming here from Europe/Asia. On ships!------'Killer shrimp' among 7 new aquatic pests banned from Michigan waters

'Killer shrimp' among 7 new aquatic pests banned from Michigan waters | MLive.com:
The newly-listed pests are:
• Stone moroko: Also known as the topmouth gudgeon, this species of minnow is native to Asia and is considered an invasive pest in Europe. Large-scale efforts in the United Kingdom have attempted to eradicate the fish, which carries a pathogenic parasite that wipes out other minnow species.
• Zander: A close relative of the walleye, regulators are concerned this species of river fish could compete with native U.S. walleye or reproduce with them to create a hybrid. In Europe, zander are considered a game fish in some countries. In places where they have been introduced, biologists have noted "reduced populations of prey fish and competitor fish, as well as trophic changes, and in the case of some Turkish lakes, extirpation of endemic species," according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
• Wels catfish: Native to Eastern Europe and Asia, this species of catfish can grow up to 10 feet long. Climate matching has found the Great Lakes region to be a "very high" match for its native waters. Regulators are concerned introduction of the fish to U.S. waters could have harmful effects on native fish and mollusk populations, and lead to habitat degradation and possible disease transmission.
• Killer shrimp: This aggressive predator native to the Black and Caspian seas have regulators particularly worried. The species could "severely threaten the trophic levels of the Great Lakes by preying on a range of invertebrates," according to the DNR. The shrimp are known for slaughtering prey without eating them. They breed rapidly, are largely unchecked by natural enemies, and are believed to invade new areas byhitching a ride in ballast water.
• Yabby: A type of large blue Australian crayfish that biologists fear would compete with indigenous crayfish species.
• Golden musselAccording to the DNR, the golden mussel is not yet in the United States, but the species is tolerant of a wide range of environments and could easily colonize in the Great Lakes if introduced. Similar in size and shape to the zebra mussel, the golden mussel is a distinctive gold color with a pearly coating on the inside shell. The bivalve is native to Asia and could "pose a substantial threat to aquatic invertebrates and have the capacity to significantly alter all levels of food chain activity."
• Red swamp crayfish: The DNR says this species of large, dark red crayfish, native to the southeastern U.S., can quickly dominate water bodies and is "virtually impossible to eradicate." They outcompete smaller native crayfish species, gobble a range of food, are highly adaptable to new habitats, highly fertile, can survive drought conditions through burrowing and are known to migrate over land in search of new waters. In 2009, the Wisconsin DNR took aggressive measures to eradicate them from two suburban ponds.

Unintended consequences-----U.S. states' pot legalization not in line with international law: U.N. agency

U.S. states' pot legalization not in line with international law: U.N. agency | Reuters
Fedotov suggested the U.S. developments may be part of a wider trend that he said the UNODC was following.
On the international level, Uruguay's parliament in late 2013 approved a bill to legalize and regulate the production and sale of marijuana -- the first country to do so.

The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) has said Uruguay's new bill contravened the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, which it says requires states to limit the use of cannabis to medical and scientific purposes, due to its dependence-producing potential. The Vienna-based INCB monitors compliance with this and two other drug control treaties.

Why is the "solution" ALWAYS giving more money and control to the governing class?------Study: There's demand for new convention center in downtown Muskegon

Study: There's demand for new convention center in downtown Muskegon | MLive.com:
"MUSKEGON, MI – A study presented Thursday, Nov. 6 shows there is now sufficient demand to justify building a conference center in downtown Muskegon.
The draft results of a $44,500 study paid for by Muskegon County were presented to Muskegon County Commissioners and members of the Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee.
....said there were two likely scenarios for building:
1. A convention center owned and operated by a public entity, such as Muskegon County.
The facility would cost roughly $24 million to build and would benefit the county's economy by $17 million in terms of dollars spent by visitors from outside of the area.
The facility would cost about $1.5 million to maintain per year.
2. A smaller convention center owned by the county but operated by a private entity under a lease agreement.
The facility would cost somewhere in the ballpark of $15 million and pump an estimate 10.6 million per year into the local economy.
The facility would cost about $600,000 to maintain per year.
"I think that both of these have merit," Krueger said."

Solar Plant Wants to Pay Off Massive Government Loan with Massive Government Grant

Solar Plant Wants to Pay Off Massive Government Loan with Massive Government Grant - Hit & Run : Reason.com:
American taxpayers are on the hook for the Ivanpah solar project out in the California Mojave Desert close to the border of Arizona Nevada.
The massive plant received $1.6 billion in loan guarantees from the Department of Energy to build it, out of a total cost of about $2.2 billion.
The plant went online in December of last year.
After operating for most of 2014, the plant seems to have hit a significant problem.
It’s only producing about a quarter of the power it has promised.
That could present a bit of a challenge paying back its loan.
So what are they doing?
Why they’re asking for a federal grant, of course.
That is to say, they are asking for taxpayer dollars to pay back the loan that they got from the federal government that is guaranteed to be paid back with taxpayer dollars should the project fail. Fox news has the details, with some contributing analysis by Reason Foundation Vice President of Research Julian Morris:
After already receiving a controversial $1.6 billion construction loan from U.S. taxpayers, the wealthy investors of a California solar power plant now want a $539 million federal grant to pay off their federal loan.
"This is an attempt by very large cash generating companies that have billions on their balance sheet to get a federal bailout, i.e. a bailout from us - the taxpayer for their pet project," said Reason Foundation VP of Research Julian Morris. "It's actually rather obscene."

N4T Investigators: Border Patrol stripping agents of their rifles

N4T Investigators: Border Patrol stripping agents of their rifles | KVOA.com | Tucson, Arizona:
"The News 4 Tucson Investigators have uncovered that some U.S. Border Patrol agents have lost a key part of their arsenal.
And that has agents who patrol along the border here, extremely worried.
We learned that U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Offices of Border Patrol and Training and Development are inspecting the quality of agents' M4 carbines throughout Border Patrol sectors nationwide.
But agents tell us, some of those M4s have not been replaced.
And, we've learned, agents are required to share rifles amongst each other.
"There's a lot of agents that are pretty upset over it," said Art del Cueto, president of the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector union.
"We know it's a dangerous job.
We know what we signed on for but we want to have as much of the equipment as we need to perform the job."
...Del Cueto tells us that because some of those M4s have not been replaced, agents are pooling their weapons, which makes it difficult to personalize the settings on a rifle, such as the sights.
"The problem is they are now pool guns so what happens is instead of having their individual ones they have sighted in they're having to use a pool weapon that you don't know who used it before you," del Cueto said."
