When it comes to sending immigrants to the U.S., China and India have taken the lead.
China was the country of origin for 147,000 recent U.S. immigrants in 2013, while Mexico sent just 125,000, according to a Census Bureau study by researcher Eric Jensen and others.
India, with 129,000 immigrants, also topped Mexico, though the two countries’ results weren’t statistically different from each other.
For the study, presented last week at the Population Association of America conference in San Diego, researchers analyzed annual immigration data for 2000 to 2013 from the American Community Survey.
The mandatory annual survey conducted by the Census Bureau asks where respondents lived the year before.
Researchers counted as an “immigrant” any foreign-born person in the U.S. who said they previously lived abroad, without asking about legal status. (So while the data include undocumented immigrants, it may undercount them.)
A year earlier, in 2012, Mexico and China had been basically tied for top-sending country—with Mexico at 125,000 and China at 124,000.
It isn’t just China and India.
Several of the top immigrant-sending countries in 2013 were from Asia, including South Korea, the Philippines and Japan...

"The Michigan Department of Transportation is in a financial bind thanks to the 23 rails cars it is leasing from the Great Lakes Central Railroad.
And the department can’t even use these rail cars for at least four more years.
That’s a huge waste of money.
The cars are meant for two commuter projects in Southeast Michigan — a line from Howell to Ann Arbor and another from Ann Arbor to Detroit.
They are to be put into service after tracks along the two lines are upgraded.
...Meanwhile, the cars are sitting idle at a rail yard in Owosso and are costing taxpayers about $3,000 a day.
To date, the department has spent about $11.4 million to lease and refurbish the cars..."

"If the U.S. economy really is improving, then why are big U.S. retailers permanently shutting down thousands of stores?  
The “retail apocalypse” that I have written about so frequently appears to be accelerating.  
As you will see below, major U.S. retailers have announced that they are closing more than 6,000 locations, but economic conditions in this country are still fairly stable.  
So if this is happening already, what are things going to look like once the next recession strikes?
...If retailers are closing this many stores already, what are our malls and shopping centers going to look like a few years from now?

So why is this happening?....

The truth is that middle class U.S. consumers are tapped out.  
Most families are just scraping by financially from month to month.  
For most Americans, there simply is not a whole lot of extra money left over to go shopping with these days.

Because there is such a dearth of diversity — and discussions about it — at universities across the land, Ohio State will play host to the twenty-first National Conference on Diversity, Race and Learning this coming Monday and Tuesday.

Valerie Lee, OSU vice provost and chief diversity officer at the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, certainly earned her lengthy title by nabbing the conference:

“The (conference) has become an invaluable source to help keep Ohio State at the forefront of inclusive excellence, providing students and professionals in all walks of life a way to learn best practices, address relevant topics, and understand differing perspectives on diversity.”

The Lantern reports:

“...One of these sessions will be hosted by Debby Irving, the author of “Waking Up White,” and she will be the featured speaker of her sessions. According to the book’s website, the book looks critically at racism in the country and how to properly talk about it...."

“How to properly talk” about race and racism certainly sounds intriguing. 
Any takers that “properly” means “how Ms. Irving — and (racial) progressives — want you to talk about it”?

Being that Ms. Irving dubs herself a “racial justice educator and writer,” and based on the reviews of her book noted above, it’s probably a safe bet. Read the full article."

A University of Michigan student was booted off the Residence Staff (ResStaff) for inquiring about the meaning of an acronym … and then giggling when someone offered up a joke about it.

When ResStaff members were involved in a GroupChat, “Chris” asked what the “BBW” meant in a (black female) fellow ResStaff member’s chat handle.

This query was called “inappropriate” in a subsequent disciplinary hearing.

The Michigan Review reports:

Two weeks later, after another follow-up disciplinary meeting, the student’s ResStaff contract was terminated in a letter claiming ineligibility due to a class requirement technicality that, according to the student, had been resolved more than a month prior.

But even in the termination letter, the hall directors couldn’t help but reference the incident, telling the student to learn “how to better manage your involvements and to hold yourself accountable for your actions.”

A fellow member who jokingly replied to the student’s question about the acronym with “bad baby walrus” was also called in for a disciplinary meeting, but was not let go. The student himself was also reprimanded as being “racist” for laughing at the joke.

Noticeably absent from any sort of discipline? The woman herself, who vulgarly insulted the student as “f*cking stupid and disrespectful” and threateningly vowed “If we have a problem the next time I see you, DON’T be surprised....”

Examples of sexual violence include: discounting the partner's feelings regarding sex; criticizing the partner sexually; touching the partner sexually in inappropriate and uncomfortable ways; withholding sex and affection; always demanding sex; forcing partner to strip as a form of humiliation (maybe in front of children), to witness sexual acts, to participate in uncomfortable sex or sex after an episode of violence, to have sex with other people; and using objects and/or weapons to hurt during sex or threats to back up demands for sex.
