Oxford University Press bans use of pig, sausage or pork-related words to avoid offending Muslims - Telegraph:

"The Oxford University Press has warned its writers not to mention pigs, sausages or pork-related words in children's books, in an apparent bid to avoid offending Jews and Muslims.
The existence of the publisher's guidelines emerged after a radio discussion on free speech in the wake of the Paris attacks."

A discussion involving free speech ended with the banning of words?

Obama to Senate Dems: ‘I’m going to play offense’ - Manu Raju - POLITICO
The president said he’s prepared to veto hostile legislation, including an Iran sanctions package.
President Barack Obama made clear Thursday in a closed-door session with Senate Democrats that he’s prepared to veto hostile legislation from the GOP-controlled Congress, including an Iran sanctions package on the front-burner of Capitol Hill.
According to several sources at the Thursday summit in Baltimore, Obama vowed to defend his agenda against Republicans in Congress, promised to stand firm against GOP efforts to dismantle his agenda and called on his Democratic colleagues to help sustain his expected vetoes.
The president also was explicit over his administration’s opposition to an Iran sanctions bill, promising to veto legislation with his administration in the midst of multilateral nuclear negotiations with the Middle Eastern regime.
Even though Obama’s position on Iran sanctions differs from a number of powerful Democrats, the session, several sources said, was more of a pep rally than confrontation.
Despite his lame-duck status, the president promised that he would not sit on the sidelines in the next two years.
He vowed more executive actions to implement his agenda, something bound to prompt anger from Republicans who have called the president’s unilateral moves, particularly on immigration, an unconstitutional power grab.
“I’m not going to spend the next two years on defense; I’m going to play offense,” Obama said, according to two attendees.

New York Times Editor: Depicting Muhammad is More Offensive than Anti-Semitic or Anti-Christian Cartoons:
"Though some have bravely stood up for free speech, many cowards in the mainstream media have refused to print the Charlie Hebdo cartoons that have inspired jihadists to murder in the name of their prophet and their supposed “religion of peace.”

One such cowardly institution is the New York Times who have, in the past, printed anti-Semitic cartoons or other pictures offensive to Christians. This hypocrisy, they explain, is because, somehow, depicting Muhammad is more offensive than degrading Jews or Christians.

Awarded Millions, Wind Turbine Company Defaults on State Loan

Awarded Millions, Wind Turbine Company Defaults on State Loan [Michigan Capitol Confidential]
"In 2009, Ventower Industries issued a press release with the headline, “Another ARRA Success Story – New Funds Mean More Jobs in Monroe.”
The news was that Ventower, which was supposed to make wind turbine towers and bases, had been given $2.5 million by the federal government under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, or the "stimulus" package.
U.S. Congressmen John Dingell called it a “watershed moment.”
In 2010, the News Herald newspaper in Southgate called Ventower Industries “another successful project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” because it had received a $2.3 million grant and $1.2 million loan from the state of Michigan.
Yet, five years later, the state has said little about the project, and those “success” claims remain unsubstantiated.
The only official information is a 2014 state report stating that as of Sept. 31, 2013, Great Lakes Towers, doing business as Ventower Industries, completed construction of a factory in Monroe to build commercial wind turbine towers.
The only other information revealed by the one paragraph update was that the company was in default on the loan and had qualified for benefits offered by three other state programs..."

Obama's Paris snub wasn't an oversight | WashingtonExaminer.com:

"The uproar over whether President Obama or another top administration official should have attended the massive unity rally in Paris has obscured an important point about the White House's reaction to the latest terror attacks in Europe. The administration no-shows were not a failure of optics, or a diplomatic misstep, but were instead the logical result of the president's years-long effort to downgrade the threat of terrorism and move on to other things."

More Surveillance and a 'Euro PATRIOT Act'? "France just passed new regulations in November, now more will be necessary":
The irony is almost worse than 9/11.
Then, President Bush responded by stating, with bravado, that they attacked us because they hate our freedoms.
This time, the attack against the publication of satirical Mohammed cartoon, was not only an act of terrorism, but an attack on the spirit of free speech.
And the government response this time?
After staging a photo op of world leaders, various heads of state have proposed new waves of surveillance and repressive attempts to ban encryption and violate the freedom of speech in communication devices through new spy policies and laws.
On Sunday, as more than 3 million people flooded the streets of Paris in support of the free speech principles that Charlie Hebdo embodied, a group of 12 European ministers issued a joint statement calling for internet service providers to more swiftly report and remove online material “that aims to incite hatred and terror.”
Establishing a framework to enhance police work and intelligence sharing concerning the actions of alleged terrorists and extremists, the joint statement from 12 European ministers and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder declares the intent to: “counter violent extremism” and “fight against radicalization, notably on the Internet,” in part through the “swift reporting [and removal] of material that aims to incite hatred and terror.”
Meanwhile, it aims to beef European border control, “step up the detection and screening of travel movements” and enhance law enforcement, particularly in “working to reduce the supply of illegal firearms throughout Europe.

Controversy over 'offensive' Fox News broadcasts at public recreation center in Ann Arbor | MLive.com:
"A couple's objections to Fox News broadcasts at the Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center in Ann Arbor has Washtenaw County officials considering a new policy for what types of programs should be allowed on TV screens inside the center.
Ypsilanti Township residents Dave and Sue Weber argue a county-run facility is no place to be showing what they consider offensive, right-wing political propaganda.
They said they started going to the county's recreation center on Washtenaw Avenue last fall and were dismayed to see Fox News show up on four of the 12 television screens in the cardio area during election season.
"In September, when we toured the facility before joining, we didn't notice Fox on at all," Dave Weber said.
"But now October comes around, pre-election time, that's when it multiplied onto four screens, four out of the 12 in the cardio room."
Though there's no volume on the TVs, they said, they got tired of seeing offensive closed-caption blocks with remarks such as "Young women aren't capable of voting" and "We have enough illegals here, we don't need more."
They also have been offended by attacks against President Barack Obama and Democrats, and they say there's no programming offering a counter viewpoint.
....On a recent morning, MSNBC wasn't on any of the TV screens inside the center, while one of the screens was showing Fox News.
Other televisions were tuned to channels such as CNN, HGTV, ESPN and the Weather Channel."

Political Correctness is a disease deliberately inflicted on a population to eventually control how they react to situations.
White America has been trained to bow down and bite their tongues when race, sex, religion, or sexuality is brought up.
It is also known as social conditioning.
It is a tool used by tyrants throughout history.
Like Pavlov’s dogs, we have been trained to respond or not respond to situations.
How many times have you read a story about a wedding cake baker, florist, event sites, planners turning down gay couples who want their services and then being sued by those gays?

“[I want to] war game what could happen next, but I want to do so under the original premise that I laid out from the Fox days,” Beck remarked. “I said these things would come: that radicals would unite from all walks of life and begin to create chaos and destabilize the west, destabilize Europe, and then the rest of the world.”

Turkish President's Stunning Outburst: The French Are Behind The Charlie Hebdo Massacre; Mossad Blamed

Turkish President's Stunning Outburst: The French Are Behind The Charlie Hebdo Massacre; Mossad Blamed | Zero Hedge:
It was less than 48 hours ago when Turkey’s prime minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, joined millions marching in Paris to pay tribute to the 17 people killed by ISIS-supporting extremists.
Then, almost the moment he got back, things changed, and as the FT politely paraphrases what transpired, the "country’s president struck a much more confrontational tone."
That's one way of putting it.
Another is that the former PM and current president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, of NATO-member Turkey did the unthinkable: accused the west, and French citizens in particular, of staging the Charlie Hebdo murder in order to blame Muslims, even as the mayor of Ankara said "Mossad is definitely behind such incidents . . . it is boosting enmity towards Islam."
"The duplicity of the west is obvious,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a press conference on Monday evening.
“As Muslims we have never sided with terror or massacres: racism, hate speech, Islamophobia are behind these massacres.”
His punchline: "The culprits are clear: French citizens undertook this massacre and Muslims were blamed for it,” he added.

WRONG AGAIN: Greenland’s Ice Sheet Defies Critics With 4-Year High

WRONG AGAIN: Greenland’s Ice Sheet Defies Critics With 4-Year High | The Daily Caller
Despite fears that global warming is harming the Arctic region faster than the rest of the world, Greenland is defying climate scientists and currently growing at its fastest rate in four years.
The Danish Meteorological Institute reports that Greenland’s ice sheet has seen more growth so far this year than in the last four years.
Greenland’s growth in 2015 is also higher than the mean growth for 1990 to 2011.
(Courtesy of the Danish Meteorological Institute)
(Courtesy of the Danish Meteorological Institute)
Greenland has been a curious case in the global warming debate. On the one hand, scientists and environmentalists have pointed to it as a prime example of a country being impacted by global temperature rises. Greenland is home to the world’s second-largest ice sheet and scientists say it’s melting at an accelerated rate.
But a paper from earlier this year found that only about half the warming impacting Greenland is due to global warming, the other half is due to natural oceanic cycles originating in the tropical Pacific.

Pennsylvania sick day payouts show schools have a spending – not funding – problem

Pennsylvania sick day payouts show schools have a spending – not funding – problem - EAGnews.org
"But before Gov.-elect Wolf writes a blank check to the state’s schools, he would be wise to take a peek at their spending habits.
He might discover that the real problem is not a lack of revenue, but how the schools traditionally spend billions of dollars they receive every year.
A major problem is excessive labor spending, mostly due to overly generous labor policies, like paid absence policies.
The Pittsburgh school district is a perfect example.
The district is facing a potential $26 million budget deficit in the fall, a fact that has drawn the attention of the local media.
In the 2013-14 academic year, it spent approximately $13.6 million on salaries for teachers and other employees who were not at work, as well as compensation for unused sick days for those with good attendance.
That fact has not gotten much media coverage.
The main source of the sick day waste is the collective bargaining agreement between the school district and the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers.
Teachers employed for the “normal work year” get 12 days of paid sick leave per year, with “such sick leave to accumulate annually without limit and to be usable annually without limit.” Those who work longer than the normal school year can qualify for up to 15 paid sick days per year..."

Facing demolition, family's California-style dream home saved by city of Muskegon | MLive.com:

"In all, the city invested nearly $220,000 into the home.

"It was unlikely the private sector would have been able to renovate the house like we did," said Muskegon City Manager Frank Peterson. "It probably would have ended up like a lot of houses like this do -- it probably would have ended up on the demo list."

Instead, there were doctors and lawyers who clambered to buy the renovated home. But terms of the federal funding obligated the city to sell it to someone of more modest means.

"We had tons of people who wanted the house," Bailey said. "We had to say 'no' to a lot of buyers."

Meanwhile, Grissom had spent a year searching for the perfect home for her and her children, 11-year-old Amari Smith and 16-year-old Keyaira Smith. Then she saw the home on Leahy Street.

"I showed it to my kids first," Grissom said. "They loved it. They called it the mini mansion."

Grissom, who had been pre-approved for a mortgage by a local bank, offered $70,000 in February 2014, and the city quickly accepted."

Pot-based sex spray for women hitting Colorado shelves

Pot-based sex spray for women hitting Colorado shelves:
"DENVER — A new pot spray promising to help women have better sex will hit the shelves in Colorado next week.
Foria, which contains marijuana extract, claims the relaxing properties of cannabis will help women have better and more satisfying sex.
It's been available for a few months in California, but only to people with a medical marijuana card and doctor's recommendation.
The edible coconut oil-based spray — users spritz it on their genitals about 30 minutes before sex — goes on sale to the general public in Colorado next week at an Aspen marijuana boutique.
Foria, from Aphrodite Group, a California medical marijuana cooperative, is the latest in a burgeoning line of marijuana-infused products, from lotions to candies to patches.
And while there's little scientific evidence to back up their efficacy, scientists say marijuana's long history of use gives significant credibility to the concept."
