Climate change deniers are dangerous - they don't deserve a place on our site
"At The Conversation Australia we’ve recently vowed to improve our climate change coverage, and part of that means moderating comments with a similar degree of rigour.
...But it’s 2019, and now we know better.
Climate change deniers, and those shamelessly peddling pseudoscience and misinformation, are perpetuating ideas that will ultimately destroy the planet.
...That’s why the editorial team in Australia is implementing a zero-tolerance approach to moderating climate change deniers, and sceptics.
Not only will we be removing their comments, we’ll be locking their accounts.
...It is counter productive to present the evidence and then immediately undermine it by giving space to trolls.
The hopeless debates between those with evidence and those who fabricate simply stalls action.
As a reader, author or commenter, we need your help.
If you see something that is misinformation, please don’t engage, simply report it.
Do this by clicking the report button below a comment.

We know you want to have constructive positive discussions, so please don’t engage with the climate change deniers.
Dob them in and help us create a space where they don’t derail the conversation."

President Trump boasted Wednesday about progress on his border wall during a visit to a section outside San Diego, saying he thinks he can get to 500 miles by next year, depending on “terrain conditions.”
He also suggested he is living up to his promise to make Mexico pay for the wall by pointing to their stepped-up efforts to combat the flow of immigration from Central America.
“They’re paying for 27,000 soldiers, as you know,” he told reporters.

Climate change won't be stopped with fear (or hypocrisy)

Climate change won't be stopped with fear (or hypocrisy)
"Opinion: The years-long fear campaign over climate change hasn't worked. So, why do we keep ramping up the panic?
Every week, the prophecies become more frightful.

  • “As Earth faces climate catastrophe, US set to open nearly 200 power plants,” a USA Today headline warns.
  • In the UK, The Guardian proclaims, “World 'gravely' unprepared for effects of climate crisis.”
  • For the New Yorker, it’s already too late: “What if We Stopped Pretending the Climate Apocalypse Can Be Stopped?”

...Throughout our lives, eco-fearmongering has been a constant.
My first-grade teacher handed out maps showing how a pollution-caused ice age would soon cover our Chicago suburb with a glacier.
Mom eased the panic with a reminder we were moving to Phoenix that summer.
After that, acid rain was going to kill us, then the ozone hole, then global warming, then “global weirding,” and now, climate change.
Granted, the climate has always changed, but progressives think it started about a century ago..."

"Today #china removed all tariffs from US oil.
Up until this weekend, #china had been breaking US #sanctions by buying oil from #iran
This is a *strong* indication #china believes Saudi Arabia & others are going to deal a crippling blow to Iranian oil production.
In short, it shows China believes iranian oil will not be available after the strike, & the timing of the announcement is a sign they expect a strike is going to come very soon."

California announced last week that it has added Iowa to the list of states on its ever-expanding "travel ban" list because of that state's new prohibition against funding gender-transition surgeries under Medicaid.
The announcement by state Attorney General Xavier Becerra means that as of Oct. 4, California will no longer offer taxpayer-funded trips to Iowa for any public employee or student at a state-run university.

Scientists Skeptical of Anthropogenic Global Warming

Scientists Skeptical of Anthropogenic Global Warming--Bud Bromley shared a link.
"Anthropogenic or human-caused Global Warming theory (AGW) holds that fossil fuels cause an increase in total CO2 which in turn causes an increase in global temperature.

In fact, UN IPCC and others hold that human CO2 emissions from fossil fuels are causing MOST of the increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration.
In other words, A causes B which causes C, or so AGW theory holds.
However, Professors Jamal Munshi and Murry Salby and others have clearly shown that there is no correlation between fossil fuel emissions and CO2 emissions.

And, you can simply prove it to yourself instead of believing any expert...(info at link)
...When you examine the CO2 data itself, you will find no significant anomalies, despite the widely estimated 15% annual increase in fossil fuel emissions, gigatons per year, since 2000.

Try it.
Since there is no correlation between A and B, then A cannot be causing C.

In other words, fossil fuel emissions cannot be causing significant temperature change.
...Since the fossil fuel contribution is too small to detect in the overall trend, we do not have data that might inform whether the anthropogenic fraction is so small that it is insignificant, lost in the noise of the massive flux of global CO2 emissions and absorptions by nature, or alternatively whether the carbon sinks, sources and balance are adjusting to the injection of gigatons CO2 emissions of fossil fuels, or some combination of these two alternatives..."

The Strike On Saudi Oil Facilities Was Unprecedented And It Underscores Far Greater Issues - The Drive

The Strike On Saudi Oil Facilities Was Unprecedented And It Underscores Far Greater Issues - The Drive:
  • Air defense systems aren't magic and many currently have serious limitations when it comes to spotting and engaging drones and cruise missiles.
"I don't know how better to say it—there was some really shoddy and downright reckless reporting over the weekend on the Saudi oil infrastructure attacks.
...I wanted to take the time to talk about some of the inaccurate analysis being cast around in the media and about some of the larger and very pressing issues surrounding the attacks and its aftermath.
...First off, no, the direction of impacts seen in satellite photos is not any sort of conclusive evidence as to where these weapons originated from.
I saw this parroted all over the place, from cable and network news to blogs over the weekend.
...In other words, this is not unguided artillery here, it can maneuver dynamically to approach a target from a direction that its targeters find most advantageous—either for kinetic effects, survivability, or deniability reasons.
...With that in mind, the attacks could have come from any vector-based on impact information alone—Iraq, Yemen, Iran, or even a boat in the Persian Gulf...
...The big takeaway is that this is just the beginning
You are getting a glimpse at the future of warfare in these satellite photos and quite honestly, considering how omnipresent this threat has become, we are lucky a couple busted up oil production facilities were the only result of such an eye-opening attack... "

NYT Insider Reveals Who Drafted And Sent The Vile Tweet About Kavanaugh

NYT Insider Reveals Who Drafted And Sent The Vile Tweet About Kavanaugh:
"After the New York Times published an excerpt from “The Education of Brett Kavanaugh: An Investigation," a book co-written by Times reporters, Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly, a vile tweet was published on the Times' Opinion Twitter feed to promote the piece.
"Having a penis thrust in your face at a drunken dorm party may seem like harmless fun. But when Brett Kavanaugh did it to her, Deborah Ramirez says, it confirmed to her that she didn't belong at Yale in the first place," the now-deleted tweet read.
The Times deleted the tweet once they began receiving flak for what was said.
What are they thinking at the New York Times? 1) It's a discredited allegation. 2) If it had happened, such things are 'harmless fun'?

View image on Twitter

When the Times' public relations department decided to "clarify" what happened, they apologized for the tweet and said they would investigate.

The new revelations contained in the piece were uncovered during the reporting process for the book, which is why this information did not appear in The Times before the excerpt.
...From Mollie Hemingway at The Federalist (emphasis mine):
The only supposedly new claim made in the book isn’t new and comes from Democrat attorney Max Stier, a Yale classmate of Kavanaugh’s with whom he has a long and contentious history. In the words of the Yale Daily News, they were “pitted” against each other during the Whitewater investigation in the 1990s when Kavanaugh worked for Independent Counsel Ken Starr. Stier defended President Bill Clinton, whose legal troubles began when a woman accused him of exposing himself to her in hotel room she had been brought to. Clinton later settled with the woman for $850,000 and, due to a contempt of court citation for misleading testimony, ended up losing his law license for five years
...To repeat: Several of her friends said she does not recall it.

Bill would allow victims to sue sanctuary cities - Washington Times

See the source imageBill would allow victims to sue sanctuary cities - Washington Times
"Senate Republicans announced new legislation Tuesday that would allow victims of illegal immigrant crimes to sue sanctuary cities for damages.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, would create a private right of action for the victims.
And it would punish states or localities that try to hide behind sovereign immunity by withholding block grant money.
...In one instance the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office released an illegal immigrant charged with trying to strangle a woman in a domestic violence incident.
The bill would for the first time define in law what a sanctuary city is.
...“If politicians want to prioritize reckless sanctuary policies over public safety, they should also be willing to provide just compensation for the victims,” Mr. Tillis said..."
